COMMENTS:
I think that the way America is set out, especially in the cities, sets people apart. In the UK we dont have 'areas' where one race lives, we generally mix well, we all go to the same schools and embrace each others cultures. We, like any industrial nation have our knuckle dragging racists, but they are a lunatic minority and are on the fringe of (decent) society. Perhaps you need more intergration in America, that would unite you more against percieved enemies foreign and domestic.
Well, Steel, we TRY to keep our knuckle-draggers up in Montana and Idaho, where they can do the least damage to the landscape and the gene pool, but a few still decide to venture out. But you're right, Cherri. This election has been more divisive to us than even the Civil War. I've even seen discussions between Republicans and Democrats come almost to blows. And this was between two people in their early 60s, a MAN and a WOMAN! Whoever wins this thing next week has a LONG ROAD to hoe towards putting the ashes back together...
It would be naive to think that we will ever be completely united on all issues but as John Kerry says, "We can do better than this".
When America is threatened, we ALL unite. The feeling of security will bring us together when America needs it most.
Try not to think of it as diversity or growing apart, think of it as having more in common with a different group. It doesn't always mean we won't defend eachother if in need.
Dingleberry. You should read up on Leo Strauss. You would love it. All the neo-conservatives love Leo Strauss too.
O is that what I am labeled? Dumbass
I didn't label you, Dingleberry, but I was just saying that Leo Strauss said that foreign enemies (whether real or made up) tended to unite the home population (because people like Strauss think the population are stupid like sheeple). You obviously think that When America is threatened, we ALL unite, so I was just informing you of your ideological leader. Did you believe that the Russian people were evil when the Communists were in power? Rumsfeld did, and he pretended that the weapons they had were far better than they were.
Isn't diversity supposed to be strength?
