DO CONSERVATIVES HAVE LESS OF A NEED TO EXPLAIN THEMSELVES THAN LIBERALS?

I hate categorizing people like this, but it's the most succint way I can phrase the question. It's also the only way we can look at the "big picture", which is the most important thing to consider here.

Don't conservative people tend to use tradition as the dominant explanation for things? It's at least relied upon more heavily than for liberal people. Wouldn't this, then, mean that most things explain themselves automatically, by virtue of historical precedence?

COMMENTS:
I don't quite gather your meaning behind "tradition".

He means to say that the conservatives go by a book. Their opinion on things never changes. Sort of like the Vatican, they all go by what the Bible tells them.

Social conservatives seem to go by tradition but fiscal conservatives argue from reason.

The Simpsons said it as well as it could be said. At the Democrat conference, the banners read 'We're too weak to govern'. The Republican conference banners read 'We're just plain evil'. That's all you need to know about a Republican! (oh dear - I'm asking for trouble here....)

Hey - The Simpsons said it first! You like the Simpsons, don't you?

Ahh Liberal democrap don't you ever get tried of trying to demonize people. My opinions have change drastically in the last 5 years or so. I used to be for the death penalty and now I am against it for example. I used to vote for racist lying demoncraps and now i generally don't. However I am voting for a good Democrat for Congress in my district.

I think that liberals have to explain themselves more because they are so myopic.

I am a registered independent, although I do definetley consider myself to the right of center. I am an Atheist...so believe, I do not go by what the bible tells me--I follow my own heart.

What I mean by tradition is "the way things have been done." Typically, this would encompass a very long time span - I.E. the institution of religion, or marriage. But it can encompass a much shorter timespan, depending upon the subject. 'A specific practice of long standing'

YvizVengo, I don't understand what you mean.

confidentconserv, is it possible for you to answer this question without getting emotional? (And that is a completely honest question - no sarcasm or bullshit)

Finally, perhaps y'all noticed in my subcomment to the ballot that I realized and explained the fact that this question involved an unfortunate, but necessary generalization. It is not a question that can be answered as an individual. You have to think about the group as a watered-down whole. Or you can make it personal. Your call.

As a reliable rule:
Conservatives tend to use tradition to justify their positions, while liberals tend to use their own emotions and feelings.
Which is worse is a matter still open to debate.
