He got the largest # of votes in American history, Republicans control the house and senate. I can't believe you have no Idea what he means. Don't be self important, take a peek at history you'll notice we are not any more divided than before.
Clinton only recieved 49.2% in 1996.
Baghdad, pretty soon Tehran
Love that numbers thing. Did you also know that Kerry got the second largest # of votes in American history? Lately I've been taking lots of peeks at history, some of it German - and it makes me very uncomfortable.

The point is: NO ONE coming out of any election has Political Capital. If anything, Political Capital is *spent* during an election. Yes, he got a majority. A majority does *not* equate to *political capital.* I can only he hope that he doesn't really understand what the term means.
lcb: On the surface, using number totals, you have a point. However, when one breaks down teh numbers and looks at not just total aggregates but numbers who are strongly for, for, against, or strongly against ... Bush has some of the strongest negatives in history.
So, teh question becomes ... will he truly reach out and work to craft things for all of the people? Or will he 'reach out' to invite 49% to come onto his line, 100%, thus being leader for 51% or less of the country? I think we all know the answer to that.
lowerclassbrats, that's some liberal number massaging you are doing. Clinton received 49%, but he was running against 2 candidates, that received far less votes. Largest number of votes argument is laughable, because only reason he got that (and kerry got the #2 in history) is due to the fact that Bush got in the white house in 2000 with half a million votes less than gore.

I'm betting that in the next election, all states will have electronic voting with no paper trail. Your vote won't mean a thing.
How lame that you would rate this poorly LCD. You have the power to kick me off. So just do it. It is not a few percentage points. It is millions of votes. Karma is censorship.
stop bellyaching cc.

I will stop bellyaching if you stop being petty. I don't agree with your views. You don't like that. You are the creator of this site. You probably think that your "karma" system is a good way to keep bad users off, but all it does as to work as a censor. It is self-perpetuating way to keep people, like me, who are passionate and articulate, and don't back down from the vitriol from speaking up. Karma is censorship.
I keep telling myself, in the days since Kerry conceded, that I have to give this man a chance, because even the worst of men deserve a chance at redemption (Catholic schooling coming back to haunt me). But then Mister Bush says something like THAT, and I'm back to the fear that, to him, it's just "Business as usual for the Chosen One." If I weren't so damned CERTAIN that I would likely whack some idiot conservative the first time he went off on some party platform tangent, I'd run for the presidency.
You don't have to run for the presidency to influence the electorate. You can get involved locally and make a difference. The 'party' of your choice will listen to your views and appreciate the service be it Dem Repub Green Libertarian Indep etc
A buck, two-ninety-five, as they say in the South. Here's the formula: Assets minus Liabilities equal Net Worth. This method clearly indicates a Net Loss for GWB. But you knew this already, and I bore you. Thanks for the ballot.
