How did Al Qaeda get their name?

Al-Qaida did not even have a name until early 2001, when the American government decided to prosecute Bin Laden in his absence and had to use anti-Mafia laws that required the existence of a named criminal organisation.

Al Qaeda, as a global organisation is a myth, do you agree?

COMMENTS:
Somebody has actually voted No on this ballot. That must mean that they think that Al Quaeda did not get its name at the bin Laden trial in 2001. If anyone can post evidence that Al Quaeda got its name from somewhere other than the 2001 bin-Laden they get a gold star. Off you go, kids. If you can't find anything then just make something up. Your type always do.

Clearly some people are having trouble dealing with truth Cretin. Al Qaeda was a name we gave them, a name America made up. They have adopted it because it was clear that it would give them more publicity than they could have ever dreamed for. A small group of Islamists can now reach the entire world.
by wolf_nipple_chips on Fri Nov 05, 04 9:43am [+]

Also The Islamic Brotherhood is controlled from London. All Islamic terror is part of a Hegelian dialect. States have created their own enemy for thousands of years.
by cretin_slap on Fri Nov 05, 04 9:59am [+]

You're nuts.

They were being indicted by the U.S government under the name Al Queda as far back as 1991!

The legal documents are open for public viewing if you're interested. I don't know where you're getting your info but they don't fact check.

Go to PBS's website and type in Frontline - Al Queda's Global Context.

I'm not going to comment on the rest of these polls because it probably just more of the same misinformation.

by cretin_slap on Fri Nov 05, 04 10:25am [+]

Can you give me a specific link Iquana, all I am getting is discussion group listings.
by wolf_nipple_chips on Fri Nov 05, 04 10:38am [+]

Sure. Tell me how to post a link on this stupid site.
by ClosetIguana on Fri Nov 05, 04 10:41am [+]

You will probably need to stick some spaces in there somewhere. Alternatively post it to my user page, I think they work OK there.
by wolf_nipple_chips on Fri Nov 05, 04 10:44am [+]

Go to Google and type in
Frontline, Al Queda Global Context.

It's comes up on top for me.

What did you mean by bugger? Were you hoping for my response on each of these posts?

Did you find the site?
by ClosetIguana on Fri Nov 05, 04 11:10am [+]

Sorry I have been busy at work.

Although my date above may be wrong, this is clearly not an indictment document from 1991, because it discusses events in the late nineties. It merely gives a biased history of up until the late nineties.

It may infact be the part of the case I was discussing in my ballot.

It gives no evidence whatsoever that would suggest Al Quada have been known as that since the eighties. It is not a contemporary document at all.

I need to read it closer, but that is my initial interpretation.
by wolf_nipple_chips on Fri Nov 05, 04 12:24pm [+]

Its a shame it doesn't actually give a date at the top of the document.

Your right. The artical mentions 1989 Osama bin Laden -- along with Muhammad Atef and Abu Ubaidah al Banshiri -- founds Al Qaeda ("The Base"). The organization operates out of Afghanistan and Peshawar, Pakistan.

and links to Read more about Al Qaeda's establishment in the U.S. indictment of Osama bin Laden. My mistake.

But to say that Al Queda got it's name at the bin ladin trials in 2001 insn't right. I remember hearing storys of Al Queda on the news in at least 2000.

You can still find old news articals on the web using the term Al Queda. I found one on CBS dated
August 12, 2000
by ClosetIguana on Fri Nov 05, 04 1:21pm [+]

Yeah, I admit, I was wrong with the date, I have admitted that. But my view still stands.
by wolf_nipple_chips on Fri Nov 05, 04 1:31pm [+]

...and I will look into your articles, and I will try and find my original sources which I used to form this viewpoint.

I know you working. I'm in no hurry. I'm sick at home with the flu. Got it from the flu shot (worst $15.00 I've ever spent)

An understanding of the literal interpretation of Al-Qaeda will reveal that no Muslim group woud have chosen that name

The Base?
Why is that BMN?
by ClosetIguana on Fri Nov 05, 04 9:53pm [+]

Well, The base of Al Qaeda is Afghanistan, the area of Afghanistan is 253 , 000 square miles.
So Al Qaeda has a reference number 253.
And September 11th is day 253.
And 9/11 that is 9 divided by 11 x 253 is 207 and the average gestation period for a bear is 207 days. And 230 less the tithe is 207.
And 23 is the reference for power, and 23 x 7 x 2 is 322, the red dragon. So the Red Dragon at 322 + the Serpent x Serpent at 289 is 611 the reference for the Skull and Crossbones.

Now to the Ring at 23
Gandalf the Grey discovered that the ring possessed by Frodo the Hobbit, was in fact the One Ring, ruler of all Rings of Power. He recounted the flight of Frodo and his companions from the quiet Shire of their home, pursued by the terror of the Black Riders of Mordor, until at last, with the aid of Aragon, the Ranger of Eriador, they came through desperate perils and..

Ok , thats correct. It translates as the Base.i cant for the life of me find the thing i was thinking of so i'll retract that post
Thank you kind Closet
for your understanding

06 November 1998, was the date. If you do a search for the origins of the name you will find that even in some of the online Encyclopeadias say its a name that has found its way into popular culture, but was originally coined by the Government in that specific case you outlined, so that they could use the same laws that were used for organised crime and the mafia.
