COMMENTS:
If Liberal_Democrat really sent you that message, it's because he doesn't understand the word 'joke' as in it was a joke ballot by LCD. I don't know you so I don't care but much like people think of Kerry, you're acting like a P****!
If you want a site that always agrees with you, this may not be the place. If you want to engage in some spirited discussion with a wide array of people, opinions, and backgrounds ... there's none better.
China is communist?

Sorry that was my mistake. I didn't see it say "Joke".
Haha, we all knew it, Lib_Dem, so much for the 'deal', lol.
I disagree with all of you, including mike, he will be back.

So Mike1952, you don't like the fact that people express their true opinion about communist because you oppose it. That kind of sounds like Chinese communism.
Mike1952, thanks for sending me that really offensive message, it's shows how you'd like a one party government.
"The proper answer to false speech is true speech, not no speech." - Thomas Jefferson
Well, to answer ABC's question, China is now a mixed economy, with capitalism progressing and old communist influences trying to still control some of it.
I'm leaving this shithole too. Friggen chinese-communist-left wing, conservative- hating, Bush-bashing bastards all of you! ;)
So basically, you're leaving because you can't accept other peoples' opinions?
No Cherri! Don't leave!! I'll give you all the chocolate you can dream of!!
conservatives are leaving because you liberals gang up on us and won't give us fair karma ratings, if we agree with you we are ok, but if we don't you vote us down, like fox news is right wing, this site is left wing, and if you think about it, half of usa voted conservative, but why do we not see many conservatives here? because of your bashing. and karma put downs. yes I know I said I was leaving, but I had to tie up some lose ends here. and Ben_The_Sultan nothing about this message is offensive.
no I do not like communist and do not want to associate with anyone who is communist. mike1952 on Nov 05, 2004 | RESPOND
mike1952, can I help you pack? Sorry that you couldn't live with us here. Hope you find a place where you feel comfy. I hear that there are several militias up in the Northwest looking for applicants...
And, now that I think about it, we've witnessed a first here. A SORE WINNER...
"If you want a site that always agrees with you, this may not be the place. If you want to engage in some spirited discussion with a wide array of people, opinions, and backgrounds ... there's none better." Cathexis, it'a not that he wants everyone to agree with him, it's that here there is an overwhelmingly majority of liberal democrats. There are barely anyone to make friends with if you are a conservative because everyone here is always trying to bring you down. It sucks, it reallyd does. There is not an even amount of conservatives and liberals here. Most people, including LCD, have no morals and strive to bring down every last bit of christian idea we have. If this country had no morals we'd all be in chaos. As time goes by we are moving closer and closer to chaos and people like conservative are trying to preserve the last bit of morality and tradition our country has left.
Dani: I have to disagree. I view myself as friends with several very conservative users. We have established a baseline of respect, though we often disagree. Conversely, rude or nasty exchanges are not confined to any political philosophy. I myself had had a few Rants and Tirades (and wishes for untimley, painful demise) directed my way. Well, what can you say? Some people are just going to be rude ... whether liberal, conservative, or because their family trees don't fork enough. A lot depends, I find, on how one reacts to them. Drop to their level ... you get muddied along with them. Maintain a higher ground ... you'd be surprised how some people rise to meet you and actually turn out to be great people. The hard-core cases ... ignore them or laugh at them, depending upon circumstances. You'd be surprised how many of the B&W community will be able to see who is out of order. But none of us should think we can drop into the mud with our own responses and then walk away ... dare I say it? ... innocent like children and pure like angels.
One additional thing: Both political sides, I have noted, have a tendency to take a victim mentality -- The Other Side is evil and hates us. Every perception then goes through that filter. When we treat people with suspicion, animosity, and hostility ... there is often a tendency for them to fulfill that expectation. Just my opinion, of course. Too many of us have a tendency to view disagreement as hostility. The result: We cannot abide disagreement.
As to morals and Christianity ... again, I have to disagree. Some are down on Christianity, in general. Well, they havge their opinions. But IMO, there are different flavors of Christianity. And there isn't a *lot* of true Christianity on this site -- too many think it is some kind of contest and are intent on *winning* ... not spreading word by example. Everything I said about politics above pertains to religion, as well, in my opinion. When people view everyone who disagrees as hostile or enemies ... they are never at ease in a communhity where anyone thins differently.
*thinks* (sorry -- typo)
PS: LCD has no morals?!? Whatever are you talking about? He strike sme as one of the more principled people I have met, in life. Again ... No Morals? Or morals that do not mesh with yours?
'Ben_The_Sultan nothing about this message is offensive.' Maybe next time I tell you to go "Fuck yourself" you won't find it offensive?
The deal ith LCD is funny, because as an owner of this site he seems to be very strict with the way he bans racists and jew-haters. Which is good. But I'm talking about what he thinks about politics, that's what I disagree with.
It's the totall oposite with how he runs this site. Also, I agree that some people can be freidns but still have different political views. But in an election time, it's only natural tokid of seperate yourslves from others when you believe different things from them. It sort of puts the two on bad terms. Yes, there ARE many different flavors of christianity. I would say probably everyone has their own way of practicing it and how far they go. But here christians simply don't try preaching it. I mean, it's a website. Christians just want to be able to prach it without getting yelled at by non-christians and saying "get out bible thumper i don't want to hear your crap!". That's why they just talk about it in the political sense.
Dani: So his political views strike you as having No Morals? Hmmm. I'm still surprised ... I don't recall reading anything he has put out that I would characterize as Immoral.
Re: In election time it is only natural ... Agreed. However, it is a sign of maturity, IMO, when people can disagree and still be friends. Or, at least civil. And we all have exchanges now and then. herzog and I periodically fall into sniping at each other, but it is a well-known fact he intends to name his first-born after me. ;-)
As for Christians here ... some are sterling examples of the best their religion has to offer, IMO. However, more are not. Some do not really preach ... they verbally attack and accuse and rail, lashing out viciously at all who are not of their faith. Yes, that can give any religion a bad name. Conversely, there are those who will not look at individuals. Rather than us etheir judgment, they fall back onto the nice mentally-lazy crutch of labels and stereotypes when they think of Christians. Or conservatives. Or liberals. Or non-Christians. Or Muslims. So many are sensitive to being attacked ... too few are sensitive to their own attacking.
IMO, I will admit, the US Religious Right is currently in the process of destroying true Christianity. Here's how I can spot a true Christian: * They work to remove sin in their own behaviour * They are interested in helping others * They lead by example * They make sure their is no beam in their own eye Here, frankly, is my perception of too many who call themselves Christian: * They work to remove perceived sin in the behaviour of everyone else * They are interested in helping themsleves and making sure no one gets anything that isn't deserved * They lead by lecturing, villification, and attempts at coercion * They believe it is the duty to inspect the eyes of their neighbors for possible motes of dust And then, despite all logic, they become dismayed when anyone speaks out against this.
Any time people try to discuss political or religious beliefs, they risk anger ... no matter how they approach it. But I believe if people converse in an intelligent, mature, reasone dmanner ... and are respectful of the views and beliefs of others, there is less probability of vicious exchanges.
Unfortunately, too many people -- of various beliefs and opinions -- seem to think that anyone that has a different opinion should be derided. It amuses me that they are amazed if they are turned upon. That indicates to me that they tend not to discuss things, but to like to coerce their way through force. But when the numbers are not with them ... they become frustrated and petulant. The good news: It is never too late to change ones' approach. The risk: Your own viewpoint/ belief may undergo change, as well as those of others. ;-)
