A very creative idea. You're on a roll today, Cathexis! Why has no-one suggested this before? It is a viable option.
ZIG, because the WRONG MAN is sitting in the White House right now...
Hey, maybe someone will tell him of this and I'll get that cabinet position. ;-)
Now *that* would be ironic!
Yes, great idea Cathexis! (He is on a roll today!) However the cost part is a concern. Some might find this immoral as well, as it's unnatural (test tube baby?). Costs would be a great concern. I can say I'd be all for it so long as it was privately funded.
Let's assume for now it's possible. The embryo is harvested and gestates to full-term as, in effect, a "test-tube baby". The real question becomes: who's going to raise and support all these new test-tube babies? More specifically, we need to ask the anti-abortionists: "How many of these new test-tube babies are YOU, personally, going to adopt?". The antis don't just avoid answering that question - they are careful to be absent from the scene when it's even asked. Which, I suppose, is an answer in itself.
There are people in this country lined up, waiting for children to adopt. This might make the whole process easier. Many are too intimidated to get involved in the heavy legal bindings of adoption. Still, as it has been always, religion and science are going head to head.
Tad, my question stands, except that I would revise it to ask the religious right anti-s: "How many of these babies HAVE you adopted?" {Meaning, the babies resulting from their goal of women not having abortions.} Since the vast majority of anti-abortionists are white, and just as big a majority of said babies are non-white the questions asks and answers itself, wouldn't you say? Yes there ARE people lined up waiting to adopt - healthy white infants, that is. That the latter are such a tiny minority among children up for adoption, is precisely the reason there is such a long line in the first place. Get a clue.
Damn, I thought this ballot was giving out the address of an abortion clinic....=:-)=
Yes, indeed - who is going to raise these babies? There may be a lack of babies for adoption now, but what happens when there are more babies than parents? If every woman who would have had an abortion instead has her fetus carried to term outside the womb, we would have a whole generation of children born without parents and without a home. What are we going to do then, make "group living" houses for them? This strikes me as a nightmare. It's an interesting idea, but I feel that it would create more problems than it would solve.
Flat out, abortion exists because people do not want to take responsibility for their sexual actions.
At least I see people talking outside the binary limitations ... that is a good start.
What about a different kind of adoption - adoption of embryos? And implanting the viable embryos into women who cannot get pregnant and neither husband nor wife have eggs/sperm that can be used? At least in these instances the child would have parents, and the adoption fees could cover the cost of retrieval and storage of the embryo? It wouldn't solve all the issues, but would limit the ethical and financial challenges.
it's a good idea but the religious people will have objections to that as well
YES,a woman has a right to have control over her OWN body?? what if she was raped and got pregnant?? or, what if as soon as she announced that she was pregnant, her man left her and she already has 4 kids and can barely afford them?? or what if having the baby will pose a danger to her health?? A womans body=her own decision, but if she wants to have sex,and does not want a baby, she should USE PROTECTION!!!
why do women always want to do something naughty but don't want to pay the consequences later?
most women who commit abortion were not even raped they just screwed up and payed for it.
I support research to gestate fetuses outside of the uterus. In fact, if such technology were developed, it should replace the natural method of having children. No child deserves the indignity of being born from its mother's body. However, I still support the right to abortion. Better to be aborted than to be born.
It would be worth it for people who are so adamant that the fetus is "saved", even if all expenses for this procedure are funded with taxpayers' money. Or would it? Hmmmmm
