If it is a Philosophy course: Yes. If it is a Science course: No.
school!
School is for dummies. Der Duh Doh.
If it deals with verifiable facts and the same results can be reproduced by independent sources then it's science, otherwise it's opinion. Schools should teach science, not opinion.
There's much more to creationism v. evolution (something from nothing v.infinite potential). It's actually quite interesting and typically examined in the Philosophy of Science. Bone up on St.Augustines doctrine of rationes seminales and the second law of thermo dynamics. Unfortunately, I suspect Georgia is using creationism to explain the existence of the earth (utter nonsense). Georgia, a typical Red State.
Nope. How the hell can they instill something they don't even know if they're sure about into kid's heads? You may as well throw me an advanced calculus textbook and say "ponder it"
I graduated from high school in Georgia, and, like Paul Simon, I am amazed that I can think at all after all the crap I learned in high school. I did learn that Georgia school administrators and politicians cannot be trusted. Later on, I learned that Georgia is not atypical.
I don't know about you all, but when I was in school, they did touch a bit on creationism. They also admitted that the Theory of Evolution, in its entirety, cannot be proven and differentiated what evidence we have and what we lack. First off, the two don't need to be mutually exclusive. Second, some speciation and such can be proven, so evolution does occur. Science prevails over religion because scientists seek further answers and are willing to change their theories with new discoveries. Religions, generally, aren't.
One more reason for me to be ashamed to live in this hick state. The funny part is that, if you take a walk down the street long enough, you'll start to believe that Evolution WORKS. When I was growing up, I learned Evolution as a "possible theory" and Creationism was something I picked up in Catholic school, where it OUGHT to be taught, as it's RELIGION...
Only if they teach evolution as well. It would be interesting to learn about 2 different view points. But if they say earth was created like 3000 years ago then thats a load of crap.

I would have liked to have learnt about various creation myths from around the world. That would have been interesting. Oh, and magdelenasdollar, speciation has never been proven. her-blog was correct to mention that science deals with verifiable facts and repeatable results. If you think about it evolution can offer neither. The only hard evidence we have is the fossil record, and that proves unequivocably that animals stay the same for hundreds of millions of years eg ammonites, crocodiles ,flies etc.
the fundie nutjobs never give up do they
If the teachers teached the kids Christianity all the liberals would start crying and protesting. But they think its ok to preach a false theroy.
