Several ABC affiliates say they will not air the network's broadcast of the World War II film *Saving Private Ryan* because they fear repercussions from U.S. regulators.

Affiliate WOI-TV in Des Moines, Iowa has decided to pre-empt the film that depicts several violent battle scenes and contains foul language due to concern about a possible fine from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Do you believe the movie should be televised?

COMMENTS:
yes it should be televised, where are the censors, they always cut out bad language and certain seans from movies that may have a R or pg rating in the theatres, this is much to do about nothing.

Is this the beginning of a larger crackdown by the FCC? Seems like that movie is by no means any more violent or blue than many, many others I've seen on network TV - with language bleeped. What's really going on?

I know mojo, see more violent on the evening news than what is in saving private ryan

Sure, they'll show us Dennis Franz's bare ass, and violent gun fights, but a little bad language is just too offensive.

F**king hypocrites

movies like that should be televised, but who watches those movies on the public stations anyway? I know I don't.

If they can say shit on south park 158 times why not.
by lowerclassbrats on Thu Nov 11, 04 11:41am [+]

I bet it has more to do with the reality of the movie and many people's views of the war on terror. They are using the FCC as a scapegoat.

"The Land of the Free" is slowing becoming "The Land of the Subverted". Just wait until religion starts to flex it's muscle within government policy.

...and the masses say in unison "how could this happen?"

It's ridiculous, they arent playing it at 3pm to target kids! This was a strong powerful movie and I see no reason this should not be aired, I would prefer to do away with the FCC. Parents are the ones who are going to make a differnce in a kids life, not the FCC. Parents should turn the damned TV off more often anyway. What ever happened to stick-ball? Or riding bikes?

My local ABC affiliate here in Atlanta just decided not to air the movie about six hours ago. But they DID pre-empt "All My Children" today to show the local Veterans' Day Parade downtown. There's a word for this kind of behavior. Someone help me out on this. It starts with a "h"...

Both of my affiliates, I get Green Bay and Milwaukee, wimped out. By the way, how easy would it have been for the FCC to announce that they wouldn't fine anyone.

I believe it should be aired at an appropriate time of evening, why not?

I really do belive the film deserves some criticism though. I understand that Spielberg was trying to communicate the horrific reality of war to the audience with his gory opening sequence etc.. But i felt he revelled in the blood and gore a tad to much.. more for morbid pleasure, and increased ticket sales, than dramatic effect. Such human suffering shouldnt be a tool to make money.

Or am i just being a big gay softy?

Remember what the MPAA says... horrific, deplorable violence is okay, as long as no one uses any naughty words.
