IF GIVEN NEGATIVE KARMA, SHOULD YOU RETALIATE BY RETURNING THE GESTURE?

[+] ballot by HBinVegas
created Thu Nov 11, 04

I gave my first negative Karma rating yesterday for what I thought was an offensive ballot. It was marked serious and was placed in the All Audience section. The user immediately retaliated by giving me negative Karma for an old ballot of mine marked as a joke and placed in the Private section.

Is this the way this kind of thing is usually handled? Do I have to be afraid to give negative Karma because I'll get it right back even if I don't deserve it? Are we not supposed to rate something down? I guess I don't know the etiquette here. Please advise.

Yes, negative Karma is always retaliated.
No, the user behaved childishly.

The user behaved childishly. But the situation is not uncommon.

well, maybe this will cheer you up.(look in the karma report page)
by Asanborn on Thu Nov 11, 04 12:18pm [+]

Well hopefully by his immature nature, he hasn't a good karma title. Therefore, his rating probably wouldn't have made a dent in yours! (I hope this is the case!) If not, be the bigger person and put his/her little game to an end.

Oh....of course not....haha.

Not only is it childish, but I think it's against the B&W 'rules'.

Aww, I'm already feeling better.....hugs to you all!!!

HI, I'm MO... echo: , it's been 7 days since I was victimized with retaliatory karma!
In all fairness though... an equitable median prevailed.

Well, isn't that swell, you all made HB feel warm n' fuzzy with your kind words.

HB, when the tingling sensation wears off and your left in Idiot Village, you know who to call to bust out that can o' whoopa$$...

People who give retaliatory karma are acting like morons.
by nuckinfutz on Thu Nov 11, 04 1:05pm [+]

You do realise, it doesn't matter that they neg karma back. The cheating detection kicks in and it counts against them not you. So really they're giving themselves more neg karma.
by xxxxxxxx on Thu Nov 11, 04 1:52pm [+]

I always hope they do retaliate, lol. Unless they're using an alias. :o)

Also - if you look in the NEWS, you'll see that _LCD is implementing a system where users can report revenge karma to SuperUsers.
by keithsheen on Thu Nov 11, 04 2:45pm [+]

well, it would depend if the negative karma was deliberate or not.
by Ms_Doubtfire on Thu Nov 11, 04 2:52pm [+]

It was deliberate retaliatory karma and brought HB down from Lord to Knight. Cheat detection not functioning as intended!
by magdalenasdollar on Thu Nov 11, 04 3:36pm [+]

Cheat detection only works with positive ratings. All negative ratings no matter if they are retailiatory (given 2 seconds later)seem to have some sort of effect. LCD should fix that.

if it was in the wrong section, which I think rating for that is stupid anyways, I put most of my ballots in all audience unless it's adult contents, you were being a bit pety for rating him down for that, but he was just as wrong for rating you down.
by lildude198944 on Thu Nov 11, 04 5:54pm [+]

what may be serious to you, might be all audience for someone else
by lildude198944 on Thu Nov 11, 04 5:55pm [+]

No, lildude, it was an offensive ballot, as HB states at the beginning of this ballot.
by magdalenasdollar on Thu Nov 11, 04 6:15pm [+]

he should have given the number for the ballot so we could judge for ourselves rather it was offensive or not
by lildude198944 on Thu Nov 11, 04 6:56pm [+]

LD - I don't want to expose the user - that's not my intent. I felt the ballot could be offensive to others as well as to me. I would never rate someone down for putting a ballot in the wrong place, or having an opinion different from mine. Your opinion of the ballot isn't important for this question, I don't think you quite get it. I don't think this is a forum for being hurtful to others, and that's what I felt the ballot did.
by HBinVegas on Fri Nov 12, 04 12:54am [+]

I would absolutely give bad karme to the bastards that have given me karma because they don't agree with my views. Cretin, hamster, liberal tard are the top of my shit list.
by xxxxxxxx on Fri Nov 12, 04 2:13am [+]

Doesn't LCD's Cheating Detection System take care of retaliatory karma?
by ECTO1 on Fri Nov 12, 04 10:54am [+]

no, why would it? honestly, 90% of my bad karma comes from people being asses. If they want to be asses, they get zapped.
by jappy on Fri Nov 12, 04 10:14pm [+]

I only give bad karma to those who give it to me first, and I give it back only in the quantity I recieved. I love to give good karma and give it often. I guess the whole revenge karma is childish but I am a bit immature.
by lowerclassbrats on Tue Nov 30, 04 2:34pm [+]

InternalColonel is known to do such childish things. Except he uses the buddy system by retaliating against users who rate his *friends* negatively. I think he's probably 15 years old, and not really elligible to vote.
