Too true. It is easy to shock or startle ... a lot tougher to induce actual suspense or horror. I believe it comes down to money. They cheap bastiches just won't pay for decent writers.
yes... i've noticed that they rely to much on special effects which look too computer generated with no storyline to back them up
you dont need blood and gore to make a good horror movie, you only need suspense!
Not only that, I've noticed that about movies in general.

Preparation_H hit the amnesia patient right on the head! The suspense factor has taken a back seat to the special effects.

You JUST NOTICED? They're just aiming for our money one weekend at a time, tossing out just enough in the trailers to lure us in. They don't have a clue as to how to do it right, and they don't really CARE.
