The US started to implement the metric system back in the 70's and it stopped for whatever reason. As far as bullets are concerned I can't answer that.

It's worth noting that the American liberals want to ban the relatively anemic 9 millimeter guns, while ignoring the much deadlier .45 and .357. Why? Because "9 millimeter" just plain sounds scarier, at least to people whose knowledge of guns is derived entirely from bad TV cop shows.
