Like in Australia. Kindergartens and schools don't celebrate Christmas. Lets face it. The Western world is gradually being taken over.
The original reason for Christmas was to give the pagans an incentive to become Christians. It's a good idea for them because most people won't be offended by "Happy Holidays" but some people would be offended by "Merry Christmas". I live with Christians so I celebrate it with them and it doesn't bother me either way.
yeah it's so offensive, give me a break, the oringinal reason for christmas was to celebrate the birth of christ
I actually think they should do away with it all together, let christians celebrate it, let the rest of you continue with your lives.
just like we do with jewish and muslim and what ever other faiths out there holidays, we just go to work and school and not even take that day off. That should satisfy everyone. why should people get a day off for something they do not believe in. I'd be willing to go to school on CHRISTMAS. i'd celebrate it after school, in my church where it belongs.
the way it's being done now is belittleing Christ, for those of us who believe in him
Mixed feelings on it. But I also think it is a natural backlash in response to militant Christians who want to legislate Religion. It is just unfortunate that the backlash hits everyone.
cathexis, after thinking about it, as I said, maybe it should not be a national holiday, non christians can treat it as a regular day, christians can celebrate it after work or school or take a personal day off if they can, that way no one can say they are being offended.
No, keep it as a holiday, we need the time off. But this air of political correctness is stifling! Not to mention the fact that discussing religion in the classroom is also stifled! Freedom of religion is becoming freedom from religion

Where do you people get your information from?? "The original reason for Christmas was to give the pagans an incentive to become Christians. " thc In Britain the holly and mistletoe were strong symbols of fertility at winter solstice! in scandinavia yule was a time to celebrate the harvest! In egypt the sun god attis was celebrated on 25th december! In italy the romans celebrated saturnia a celebration to the god saturn from 17th to 24th december! Christianity approproated these festivals as a means of stamping them out! christmas was celebrated by christians on 6th january until ad 354! If anything larrynelmira its the christians that are the only ones with nothing to celebrate! Its offensive for me because on the solstice your celebrating the birth of someone who hadnt even been born yet! Its like me having my birthday on yours just so you cant celebrate yours and then telling you not to be offended!
just do what I said then mobsie, take christ out of it, let christians celebrate as they please, continue on with your life.
yes but christmas is january the 6th
why are you celebrating christs birth 2 weeks before it happened?
I don't know man, why do people celebrate their birthday on saturdays when it's really on a monday? What difference would it make if we celebrated it on jan.6th. It would still be politically incorrect and yes, if they celebrated it on december 25th before he was born, I see your point, but this is two thousand years later, he has been born, or some believe he has
yes but youve chosen an already existing festival to usurp! Lets put it this way me and a few friends were arested on christmas day 10 years ago for celebrating the solstice! the reason given in court was that people were trying to enjoy a quiet christmas with their families!!!! We were miles from anywhere and we had to stop! I say stop we were bundled bodily into the back of a police van and all our things were taken from us! so from my point on that night it would have made a huge difference! as for politically correct that doesnt bother me! Its just the way christianity has used it as an excuse to wipe out other celebrations! im sure thats not what jesus had in mind at all!
and its bloody obvious why people celebrate their birthdays at weekend dont be deliberately stupid dude!
I can't help but be stupid, you are not the first and sure won't be the last to say that to me. I'll celebrate it on January 6th, thats not a problem for me. as long as I honor his birth.
I`m not saying you`re stupid! but you know full well why people chose weekends to celebrate! Stop being so limp!
This is typical. Macy's is giving in, despite the fact that probably like 85% of American celebrate Christmas. Macy's won't have me as a customer.
I don't care what the religion is, as long as I get time off and lots of presents, I am for it. I think Kwanzaa, hanukah and ramadan should be all celebrated consecutively, and let us have the whole december off! :)

mobsie Christmas was meant to compete with those holidays you mentioned. Some people still give gifts in January, especially in Spanish cultures. It's called the day of the (three) kings.
So thc all those people that were executed for celebrating pagan festivals at christmas were just part of a competition hmm im sure they`ll be relieved to know that! since when did festivals compete! and christians usurped pagan traditions too! no it didnt merge they were forcibly removed! You make out that christianity is some peaceful religion! well its not theres only islam that can compete with the sheer brutality of christianity and even they arent that bad! It was a hostile take over no more no less!
I never said Christianity was peaceful, I recognize it for the inhumane influence it has been. I see two main personalities among Christians, the personality of God in the old testament and the personality of Jesus, unfortunately the personality of God predominates among Christian leaders. The pagans were having some cool parties around that time of year so the Christians figured they could win more converts if Christianity had a party at the same time. I know they stole the idea from the pagans.
An intriguing idea, larry. The Christmas that we know has, for all practical purposes, become a secularized climax of Consumerism. I could see Christians letting go of that and re-establishing a non-secular holiday of their own, to recapture the original intent.

Larry, I believe what has been done is wrong and that all christians should join together and not accept this! We are not allowed prayer in school, books about God, we cant even talk about God in school! It's about time Christians stand up for themselves and not let people walk all over them! For one Christianity is not about hate and murder it's about love and what Jesus did for us on that cross over 2000 years ago! Yes people turned it into a blood bath but it was never meant for that! so forget about what anyone else says and just believe in what is true for u! Christmas for me is Dec 25 and I dare anyone tell me different!!!!
mobsie666 you really should look at it from both sides! Do you honestly know how many christians are dead and still being killed because of what they believe?? thousands! So before you say how horrible and evil christianity is think about that.
"Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings" fit the general public better.
Kisty christ was born on 6th january! your a hypocrite if you think otherwise! What would jesus say??? "Like wow maaan your celebrating my birthday on the wrong day dudes!" and christ condemned consumerism as evil! so not only is it the wrong day it also goes against his principles! As for christians being killed I very much doubt that there are more dead christians than people killed by christians! So ewhile im saying how horrible it is you think about that!
Like wow maaan lol I very much doubt Jesus would say anything like that! I have thought about how many have died in the name of God but im not the one in judgment of everyone else!
how did you get Jan 6th? First time i ever heard of his birthday on that date.
dude lol
Hypocrite lol yeah ok say what you think! A hypocrite is someone who pretends that they care about someone or something but in all honesty the other real thing that person cares about is themselves! Atleast I stand up for what i believe and could care less what anyone else thinks about it!
only* also someone who says one thing and does another! Is that me?
I've heard several opinions on this: 1. Dec 25th (present celebration) 2. January 6th (old celebration) 3. March (due to talk of lambs in the bible account??) 4. Summer (probably from an aussie) 5. September (dec 25th celebrates Jesus' conception) 6. March again (dec 25th celebrates Jesus' conception and Mary was only pregnant for 3 months) take your pick
