Being poor can force you to focus on essential things - like friendship and solidarity, community, social justice, self-expression. Sometimes being well off can make you complacent and self-centred.
I don't know if being really poor, where you're dying of hunger or of the cold, is a good thing. But moderately poor is not necessarily all bad.
Inequality makes us strive to better ourselves.
Poverty leads to better home security systems .
Van Gogh was a depressed, poverty-stricken failure who killed himself. You could say his art was a result of that. I doubt it - I think he would have painted just the same if he'd been rich and successful.
