COMMENTS:
I think that if humans have a soul, so must other animals (since there are no other differences). But then again, I dont think we have a "soul." To be honest I dont really know what it is, but Im sure that we dont have it.
I totally agree with straits_dylan, every word.
if we do they do
Hamsters do. You can buy hamster souls on ebay.
What is a soul?
its the thing on the bottom of your shoe and so because animals dont wear shoes then they cant have them. Apart from those circus ones they have souls and so clowns must have really big soles. and geisha girls little tiny ones.
The main difference between ourselves and animals is rationality. Scientifically, animals are simple machines that react chemically, mechanically, instinctually. A simple justification of this, if you're not originally convinced, animals have never been identified with the ability of 'creating' --counting, art, moon cycle ceremonial headdresses, etc. Biblically, we could say animals are like Adam and Eve before the fall of man: they only know one way to act (that which is natural and taught) and can not comprehend good and evil, as they do not know evil. How could they have souls if they do not know evil? It may seem sometimes that animals are in fact 'loving' and 'benevolent.' Mainly when we think of animals as having these human characteristics, we think of domesticated animals. When we see a photo of a dog letting a kitty play on him, we think 'awwww, that's sweet and loving,' as that's how humans express love. However, it is simply an expression of learned behavior and instinct in a non-threatening environment. Our value of harmony, after all, isn't what separates us from other animals.
