do you think all these new computerised special effects are ruining movies? movies now certainly arent the same as they used to be although there are some movies that can get away with it like Lord of the Rings or Titanic but that is mainly down to big film budgets.

Yes, Make the films the way they used to be

Hell no. Matrix and Reloaded rocked! There are philosophical overtones, but they are sometimes overshadowed by ppl who want to see effects and cinematic blam-blam.

YES.

In regards to my above comment, I usually see movies that have special effects and kung-fu action, so, even if the story let me down, it won't matter as long as the effects are good!

yes, that tom hanks computer puppet is a good example.

I think special effects are cool if that's what the movie is for. But there seems to be a direct ratio between the amount of special effects and the degradation of acting abilities.

Like Keanu Reeves?

It depends on the film. A great example are the new Star Wars movies. Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should. Yoda was adorable as a puppet. And don't get me wrong, it was awesome to see his fight scene in Episode II, but how can you top that scene in Empire when he snatches Luke's flashlight, then yells: "Mine! Mine! Mine!" and beats R2 with a stick when R2 tries to grab it back? Show me THAT in CG, Georgy boy!

And am I the only one who thinks that models sometimes look better than pure CG? When we get to the point where I really can't tell if the spaceship is CG, then I might concede.

Not at all -- they just add to it. They show what regular film can't.
by xxxxxxxx on Tue Dec 14, 04 5:46pm [+]

The actual script has to be worth more than two plug nickels to start with...
by Truthseeker013 on Tue Dec 14, 04 6:09pm [+]

Yea, they do, sort of. If the movie calls for special effects, alright, but nowadays most movie sets consist of a blue background screen and computers. They add everything to the image while the actors talk to sticks. It's kind of making my desire for an acting career subside..
by Cherri on Tue Dec 14, 04 7:51pm [+]

There are no real movies any more. They're all just fireworks displays.
