SUPPORT OUR TROOPS AND FREEDOM ISN'T FREE: I AGREE, SO HOW CAN I SHOW MY SUPPORT?

I see these ribbons all the time, usually on a car (more often an SUV) that also has a Bush/Cheney sticker on it. So, what is the message? I agree with both statements, and I'm willing to do my part. I believe you have to pay for the privilege of living in a free society. But one of the major goals of the Bush regime is to cut taxes. So how else do we support our troops and pay for the freedom that isn't free? Lip service and pretty stickers on cars?

Rah, rah, rah and wrapping yourself in a Stars & Stripes is enough.
Put your money where your mouth is - and that includes YOU, rich people.
Don't treat them badly like they did in Vietnam
Send some armor to Iraq and Afghanistan
mail directions to a nearby commonwealth country

go to my website and you will find links on things you can do for the troops if you want to support them , adopt a troop program is a good one, my bro says to know the people support helps, even those bumper stickers and yellow ribbon, means they are being thought of. I don't see anything wrong with them. I know kerry supporters who also have those stickers on their cars, it's not a bad thing.

Hmmm ... maybe I shoudl stop supporting politicians who are constantly cutting veteran's benefits, sending troops into danger without sufficient equipment, refusing to release soldiers after their tours of duty are up, calling up retired soldiers and reservists, and ... oh yeah ... getting us into useless wars.

he is paying for it by not giving health insurance, causing our deficit to sky rocket, and cutting other human health services. I doubt in any major war if troops were allowed to leave even when their enlistment was up.

At no other time in history were Tax Cuts pushed during a time of war, either.

Shows where the priorities are, IMO.

Viet Nam was 30 years ago. I hope we learned something from it (though it seems unlikely), but we're in the 21st century now.

I agree cathexis, I don't know what he is thinking with the tax cuts, besides , tax cuts from federal level only cause local and state gov. to raise their taxes so make up the difference,

Send some armor plating over to the troops since apparently the energy mafia has pocketed a good bit of the funds allocated to support our troops.

I can't help but think that all of the nice yellow ribbons and such are actually undermined -- we talk a good game but don't follow through with meaningful support.

Sorry, but everytime I see those yellow ribbons, I think Hypocrasy, not Support.

where is all the money from the purchase of those little magnets and ribbons going? Are they sending it to the troops for supplies or is it going into the pocket of an individual company? (sincere question because I have no idea)
by Tadema on Thu Dec 16, 04 10:33am [+]

Magnet America in Bennett, N.C. originally started maufacturing the ribbon magnets in April, 2003 but most retailers opt for selling the lower cost versions made in China and Taiwan.

Hypocricy, Indeed.

give me a break, what is the problem with showing support, how do you know what those people do , they might send money and do other things for the troops. thousands are involved in programs like adopt a troop or others things. people yell about others putting labels on people, when we seem to be doing it ourselves here.

I'm kinda sick of people saying every conservative or every person who has a yellow ribbion on their door is a hypocrite, do you know everyone of these people?
do you know every muslim , jew and christian, if I even hinted at every muslim or jew being one thing or another I would be hit with neg. karma so fast.

which I would deserve, but you can go ahead and pass justice on people you have no clue what they do .

judgement I mean
by larrynelmira on Thu Dec 16, 04 2:03pm [+]

You may be right, larry ... Hypocrasy was probably the wrong term.

"Paying lip service" would probably have been more accurate of my perception.

What they need to do, for that not to be a perception, I suggest, is to mount a groundswell cry of outrage and demand that our government *act* like it talks.
by Cathexis on Thu Dec 16, 04 2:59pm [+]

I give up
by larrynelmira on Thu Dec 16, 04 6:20pm [+]

I should add that military families who do this are in a different category.
