IS IT UNPATRIOTIC OF ME TO SUGGEST THAT MY COUNTRY IS LESS THAN PERFECT?

[+] ballot by mojo

I've been slammed for that lately by certain B&W members. I love my country (U.S.), but I also love the country I grew up in (England). I try to be even-handed and non-abusive in my ballots and comments.

What do YOU think - am I a disloyal Europhile?

Yes, we've been offended for months.
No, you're just 'spressing yo'self like citizens of a democracy should.

I can only hope it is contagious.

Absolutely not. Here is how I see it. No country is even CLOSE to perfect, I think that the US is better than most, but not perfect at all.

BTW, I have a thing for english ladies, to be honest lol.

Only a true patriot would want to improve their country and this country sure could use it alot.
by _Beelzebubba on Thu Dec 23, 04 11:53am [+]

No, someone who wants to make their country perfect is a patriot. Someone who believes their country already is perfect and there's no room for any improvement is a conceited fool.

Amen to that.

Only if honesty is unpatriotic (though the neocons might think that...).

Your Country? You got a country mojo? I always suspected you were a dictator of some sort. How would you desribe your leadership style? Evil or nice dictator?
by elvislennon on Thu Dec 23, 04 4:25pm [+]

A total totalitarian, LOL!

If this country (US of A) were actually as perfect as some in here believe it to be, then we would have had no problem in dealing with terrorism post-9/11, we'd be loved and respected around the world, and peace would fall from the sky like little drops of dew...

Mandatory patriotism is one step too close to totalitarianism, in my opinion. And it belongs way back in history, along with the Iron Maiden & the Spanish Inquisition.
by DingleDUNG on Thu Dec 23, 04 9:17pm [+]

MOJO, you're more patriotic by voicing an opposing view point. This country that I love and live in was created by many poeple that didn't agree with one another and the only way to make a more perfect union is to combine those ideas and make a better country.
