COMMENTS:
I got a good chuckle out of this story. I also believe, from personal experience, that the French DO hate themselves on some level. Come on, no one can be so snooty all the live-long day!
Okay, that's ridiculous, not French enough??

Yes, it's ridiculous. The French consider a film French if it has french production and it his shot in France, not if it has something valuable to add to french culture. On the other hand, i consider positive that they do something to protect their culture against anglo-saxonic uniformization. Of course this is a losing battle, because there is not a french touch in movie directing. What they achieve out of this is to make 120 movies/year, spoken in French. If you look carefully, movies by Woody Allen, David Lynch and others have been co-produced by Canal+ (French media group) to gain advantage in distribution in Europe.
Yeah, denying French actors and French crew the right to win French awards does a lot to hurt Americans.
I guess it's tit for tat!
