COMMENTS:
evangelicals remind me of the witchfynders of the 16th and 17th century! scary people that rely on your fears to get you to do as they say! and if not into the flames you go! Imagine any evangelist with a gun and put them in a non christian country and said you can kill as many as you want? can you see them gleefully pulling the trigger going "jesus saves" I can
Well Mobsie, I'm not being picky but I don't think they burned any 'witches' in America. That is one of those myths that may have started with movies. I think that was more of a european deal anyway. Only 25 people died during the witch craze in those wacky days in Salem. One was pressed to death with weights because he wouldn't enter a plea, some died in prison, the rest were hanged. But I'm sure some they all deserved it, being witches and all. On the point of the ballot though. Na, I don't think we have anything to worry about. At least for now the Evangelicals are not yet lopping off heads like the 'Religion of Peace' types...ie muslims.
This is a republic, not a democracy. ("I pledge alliegance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the REPUBLIC, for which it stands...") Therefor our constitution and the writers of the constitution are inteded to bring forth a republican-based government according to our natural rights. How can you act this way towards the republican party AKA the "Grand Ol' Party" (GOP) and call it a nightmare? Stop acting like republicans are your enemies. America elects the people who they want to run our country. If you find it so amazing that the republicans hold the majority of the house, senate, executive, and judiciary branch then instead of getting mad at the voters and becoming anti-america try to improve your party. Or work on electing a candidate from the democratic party who represents the epitome of your beliefs, and who don't just run hate campaigns.
Wrong on both counts lemmygod I never one suggested burning witched was an american thing at all i was comparing their manipulative stance! and noone mentioned islam on this debate! If you cant stick to the subject or read whats written. what is the point of commenting? shall we say the inquisiton onstead the? an even closer match!
instead then
how come some republicans insist its a demcracy then? surely they would agree with you! unless its just what you and the people around you chose to believe! I do agree that the democrats should pull themselves together and fight back properly instead of whinging!
Because if they dont fight back then republicans will be the only party and thats a disaster for any democracy evenm if you want to call it a republic! in fact a republic it will become! so the united republic of america?or is that just republic of america coz you wont have states anymore youll all be one! The peoples republic of america. has a nice ring to it! sounds just like.........
We're a constitutional republic but a democracy according to civil law. A republic according to our natural laws. A lot of republics insist it's a democracy because they simply aren't aware of these things. Some even say it's a "Democratic Republic of Unity".
So what you are saying is a lot of republicans are a bit dim... hmm i always did think so but im glad you said it!
Greedy bankers and politicians will be.
There's one thing missing in America these days: independent thinking. Both in the minds of politicians and voters. The isolation of America from the rest of the western world and the promiscuity of religion and politics further compound this issue. The american media have proven they are not committed to presenting the facts to the american public, the basis of informed opinion. If you accept all this is true, then only teachers can save America.
Absurdly enough, I believe evangelics may me well prove to be the US's downfall. I'd never have guessed that in the second millennium, in a generally educated and industrialized country, that militant religious fundamentalists could gain such a foothold, much less power, but ... It's ironic that we decry the very same thing, if it happens in Muslim countries.
No, I'm saying EVERYONE isn't aware of these things. You are right if you say this is a democracy as long as you're talking about CIVIL LAW. Not the constitution.
Downfall may be a bit extreme. Will they be a potential cause of many problems, yes. My problem with the Evangelical types, such as Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, etc., is that they are not really interested in love and compassion. They are all about hate and discrimination. Basically, they are haters. I have yet to hear them celebrate God. Instead, what they do is to spout words of hate and say that they are representing God's will. They are not! In fact, they are the opposite of what Christianity is all about: love, compassion, giving, trust and forgiveness.
Therefor our constitution and the writers of the constitution are inteded to bring forth a republican-based government according to our natural rights. How can you act this way towards the republican party AKA the "Grand Ol' Party" (GOP) and call it a nightmare? by Dani_dysfunk on Dec 27, 2004 Oh, Dani...please tell me that you do know that being a REPUBLIC is NOT the same as being a Republican!?! Surely you know the difference between the two, right?
Freedom The same could be said for most of the world.
"Oh, Dani...please tell me that you do know that being a REPUBLIC is NOT the same as being a Republican!?! Surely you know the difference between the two, right? by patch22us on Dec 28, 2" Dani is a 14 year old girl who believes everything her parents tell her.
Dani is a 14 year old girl who believes everything her parents tell her. by CouchGnome on Dec 28, 2004 LOL! So do I though! :) Dani seems to be of above average intelligence though. I don't agree with much that she writes, but I think she is very bright (not nearly as intelligent as I of course, but bright all the same :)
Excuse me, but FYI I live in liberal Vermont and my mom isn't interested in politics the least bit and my dad who works at washing dishes for a living voted for Kerry.
CouchGnome, you obviously don't know enough about me so why don't you stop talking about me all together, you look like a fool. Ofcourse we have a choice of choosing a democrat or a republican in elections but we live in a REPUBLIC, is all I'm saying. Think of the derivative of the words. Demo- means people, as a whole. Re- means back, again. Think of money and taxes. Democrats tax us to put money in the hands of the federal government, then fund for welfare and social programs. Republicans give back all the money to the people (or cut taxes) and let them do what they want, they earned it. In a Republic one person has power to overrule something, and in a democracy the majority rules over the minority. With the word republic, individuals have their own power, it isnt socialized or balances out. What I'm saying is somewhat meaningless or irrelevant to this ballot but I just wanted to point it out.
Republicans are no longer what they used to be. They are just Democrats-lite now.
Dani, I think it's great that you are politically aware because more people in our age group should be. While you and I are at odds over some issues, at least you take a stand on issues. I think the best thing for people to do is to be independent thinkers. When I can vote, I'm going to make both Demns and Republicans work to prove they are worthy of my support. I think it will most likely be a case of my agreeing with Democrats on some issues and with Republicans on other issues.
Ever consider a third alternative?
Are you stupid? This country, whether you were taught it in school or not, was built that's right built by Christians. You would not be in such a great country that has so many possibilities without the Christian faith or the members of that religion. Your ignorance is easy to see. No morality no good judgement what will the next generation be? And historically we are not a secular science based quasi democratic state and if you believe that read some historical writings instead of a high school text book. You really believe the dripple that flows from your keyboeard what a shame.
Dani_dysfunk, every time you post a comment you make yourself seem more ignoarnt than before.
1FootOutTheDoor, don't you have some gays to beat up or science books to burn?
What about the Atheists and Deists that established the principles this nation was built on?
I agree patch. I'm going to register as an independant too because I think it all depends on the candidate. I am not so right-wing as some republicans. I think Howard Dean was a good governor of my state, and he's actually really moderate. I was hopeing he'd win. Not a lot of people in my school care to talk about politics. Not even people in my family. It's just me, and my hobbie alone. The internet is a good way to learn and get out your opinions.
This country WAS founded by christians and the constitution was based on the ten commandments. All the proof you want can be found right here: http:// www.gospelweb.net/ country.htm If you want to argue it couchgnome your only going against the founders of our nation.
Who cares about those religious fanatics. Sooner or later they will wake up to reality, afterall you can't stay ignorant for ever, especially not when the world is changing everyday and people are becoming more Liberal. You either go with the flow or get left behind. Give or take 10 or 20 years from now there won't be hardly any plave left for them to go, so thye'll probably have to go live out some where in the neck of the woods of Alabama.
Dani_dysfunk, that's where you are wrong. America was not founded by Christians. Native Americans settled in Americs long before the Pilgrims and the so=called fathers of the Constitution where not even Christians, they were actually Deists and some held Agnostic beliefs, despite the fact that they were born Christian.Plus Jews, Africans who weren't Christianized as well as other peoples also helped contribute despite the fact that many Americans only learn about the contributions of English people to America.
Hey freedom fries, neither are the French and especially not Al-Jazerra
Couch, I'd like to start with you
Here is the equation for me: the only way freedom can survive in America is to refuse to tolerate intolerance. Ticky, but there. Interesting ballot. Thanks.
