Mojo is right, but I know exactly what you mean. I have lost many people in my life and sometimes it seems safer to just keep a comfortable distance from people. That way you'll be OK when they are gone - cuz you *know* something bad will happen and they will be taken away.
And by taken away I don't necessarily mean by death. Divorce, moving, etc. can also be traumatic.
I tend not to get close to people because I want to be by myself. I usually don[t think about whether I'm going to lose them because I'm too busy thinking about how to get away from them in the first place.
