what country were they from?

Yeah it should get media coverage and the fuckers should be shot on sight, bastards dont deserve to live. WTF is wrong with people now days, the world is getting overloaded with sickos.
'Reports say Pakistani, Moroccan and Uruguayan soldiers have all been charged with abuses. The UN can only repatriate them but it has called on member states to prosecute offenders.' It should be noted that the abuse continued even after the UN discovered it.
thanks Herzog, I quit reading politcs because I get so pissed sometimes and now you tell me the UN is abusing children, got me in a bad mood again. If it is indeed true though it is something everyone should know about. Their faces should be each broadcast on tvs around the world and their names placed on billboards in their hometowns as child molestors. And they should have their winkies cut off... with a spoon....rusted spoon.
Yes it deserves as much publicity. Pedophiles should always be shot. Its a shame that a few people can ruin the reputation of an intyre organization or in the case of abu gharib, an intyre country.

But it's not recieving any attention hardly, why do you think that is?
I dont know, I get all my news from B&W, I suggest maybe watching CBC or BBC, I may actually watch the news tonight to see if i see anything about it.

An atrocity is an atrocity is an atrocity. If it happens, shine a floodlight on it.
This should be publicised massively. It is sick, the perpetrators should be publicly brought to book. Almost as distasteful, is the evident glee with which her-blog has brought this to our attention. It is horrendous in its own right - and in no way lessens the american war crimes at abu ghraib
Good ballot and good points made Herzog.
ABC: did you have to look for stories of the abu gharib torture? Or were you inundated with them for months after the story broke? That right there shows an unpleasant bias in the US media. Quirk: if this isn't brought to your attention, and I'm guessing the news won't hammer away at this story the way they would if americans were to blame, then how are they going to be forced to stop? If the UN could sweep this under the rug, pretend it never happened, and make no changes they would. Same as with the catholic sex scandals, as long as they weren't in the news nothing changed, once it became a public embarassment things started to change, if however slowly.
Both should be given equal media attention.
as an American, I resent the UN trying to steal the spotlight away from us...WE are the worlds' whipping boy and so please everybody just ignore this ballot and focus your hatred back on US where it belongs!..thank you and god bless.
Funny how You had nothing to say about abu ghraib isnt it Herzog and yet you pounce on this with relish! I agree it should be made public and it is important that the world knows about this! The reason the abu ghraib scandal hit the streets is because the sick fuckers took photographs of their perversions! But You bringing it up has to be a clear indication of just what you do for fun! Your a sick puppy herzog and if you were a dog you`d have been put down years ago! Oh and to use your way of dealing with things if you cant spell herzog then how are we to understand you! Go back and ask a teacher how to spell ghraib!
'Funny how You had nothing to say about abu ghraib isnt it Herzog and yet you pounce on this with relish!' The question, since you obviously didn't bother to read it, was should this be recieving more attention? Not, is this a bad thing? Nobody had to ask if the US scandal recieved enough attention, you couldn't open your door or turn on your TV without being hit with it repeatedly.
How come everything you sat is wrong herzog? 1) You didnt answer why you never commented on abu ghraib! 2)I did respond to the question but its you who failed to read the answer moron! 3)So now you speak in arabic do you herzog? In that case your a AWEE KOOZ! Dickhead!
*say
Also I read with interest Herzog your point on Puerto rica becoming a state! you said and I quote "yes if they want to become a state they should learn english" ballot 38716. If this is how you feel why are you speaking arabic? perhaps you should go and live there? I`m pretty sure noone would complain. The we can watch you on video! "ALLAH AKBAR!!!"
'How come everything you sat is wrong herzog?' Wow, irony. '1) You didnt answer why you never commented on abu ghraib!' Actually I did. And btw, at the time I said abu gharib was not a good thing, and the people involved should be punished. '2)I did respond to the question but its you who failed to read the answer moron!' No you didn't. The question had to do with media attention, not morality. You never once came close to a rational answer. '3)So now you speak in arabic do you herzog? In that case your a AWEE KOOZ!' No, I don't. Which is why I defer to those who do, and according to people who speak arabic it's spelled 'abu gharib'. Which makes your point, well you never really had a point but if you did it would be irrelevent. And I clearly do speak english, not sure where you're going with that last comment, or if you even had any logic behind it. Perhaps you're just throwing shit out hoping something sticks? Maybe mashing your underdeveloped hands against the keyboard hoping something coherent comes out? Maybe if you use enough '!'s people will ignore the content of your post.
"Actually I did. And btw, at the time I said abu gharib was not a good thing, and the people involved should be punished. " Really? care to tell me where? "No you didn't. The question had to do with media attention, not morality. You never once came close to a rational answer. " I agree it should be made public and it is important that the world knows about this! The reason the abu ghraib scandal hit the streets is because the sick fuckers took photographs of their perversions! Clear and to the poit. Which part dont you understand? "No, I don't. Which is why I defer to those who do, and according to people who speak arabic it's spelled 'abu gharib'. Which makes your point, well you never really had a point but if you did it would be irrelevent. " Pathetic. Why do you still call Iraq by its english name then? Surely its arab name is the right one. The point of the last statement was to prove what a hypocrite you are! You suggested in another ballot that people who want to be part of the us should speak english. Yet you can speak arabic and thats ok! Then of course We get down to the real herzog. the guy who thinks he`s funny! and thats precisely it when you say something you expect everyone to go along with you and if they dont you resort to drawling sarcasm. You think this whole internet thing is just about you and your views! Fine I`ll get to the point of this ballot. first you give no clear indication of where this happened! If your talking about the Congo and bosnia then its not the same thing as abu ghraib. Sure these were underage girls but the majority were prostitutes! Thats a world of difference to what you are suggesting. the abu ghraib scandal was about the abuse and murder of prisoners of war and as such its a completely different thing! They didnt take photographs smiling as they tortured people and sexually abused them nor as far as its reported did anyone get tortured to death! You twist things to suit what you want people to think herzog and the sole purpose of this ballot was to make the us actions seem like something that only gets reported because they are americans. Well its not! what happened in abu ghraib was beyond the pale and it goes a long way to pointing at whats wrong with american society! Dont try and bring others into your sick little fantasy herzog! Your emotionaly bankrupt and thats obvious! (for anyone else reading this I dont condone the mistreatment of underage girls and think its completely inexcusable but it has to be noted what herzogs purpose was here. He was twisting the truth by giving half truths and comparing it to abu ghraib. the 2 are not comparable. Furthermore most of the troops in the congo and bosnia thought these were prostitutes.(no excuse) what most probably werent aware of was the cruel punishment by the people who ran these clubs that forced these girls into prostitution by any means they could think of such as rape and isolation. This is not the same as forcing prisoners of war to commit homosexual acts underage and otherwise in front of, and with their captors, with someone smiling and taking photographs) I rest My case!
taking pictures of people that were in the jail to start with because of crimes & murders they set out to commit (as stupid as it was) was by no means on the same level as child abuse & child rape & I hope anyone trying to compare it is just trying to get attention & isn't really so messed up by his own beliefs that he actually thinks they are the same thing.
By the way herzog I heard about the prison scandal from B&W, the US press is the one that is fixated on the prison scandal. My advice to you is to stop watching the news.

Yes, that should be exposed, stopped, and addressed. Hey ... maybe there will be enough distractions for Bush to get away with some more, too. Your point is valid, herzog. Although I suspect your motivations suck.
"taking pictures of people that were in the jail to start with because of crimes & murders they set out to commit (as stupid as it was) was by no means on the same level as child abuse & child rape & I hope anyone trying to compare it is just trying to get attention & isn't really so messed up by his own beliefs that he actually thinks they are the same thing." CNN said that a lot of them were tortured into making false confessions. Although I'm sure that's another liberal media bias. Both crimes are equally henious, and they both deserve media attention. What is this, we're comparing which of these crimes are more evil now?
by aya on Wed Jan 12, 05 11:40am

No, we're comparing the media attention they'll recieve. If both crimes are 'equally henious' and only the one that makes the US look bad is reported in american media to a large extent, what does that say about our news services?
That, like any other business with finite resources, they have to make priorities? And perhaps they are vetting their information rather than coming out with accusations ... isn't that a Good Thing? Try to set aside your hatred of the UN for a bit and give the process a chance. Also, not everything negative you hera about them will be true, much as you'd like to have it so.
'That, like any other business with finite resources, they have to make priorities' Exactly my point. They have finite resources, and they have to decide how to allocate them. The fact that they choose to allocate the vast majority of those resources in ways that would make the right look bad, and largely ignore things that might make the left look bad, well that smacks of bias to me. Imagine if during the campaign both bush and kerry were found to have been smuggling drugs in from south america to fund their campaigns (or any other illegal activity, it doesn't really matter). And the media choose to only report that senator kerry was caught, and completely ignored bushs crimes. Would you say that's bias? Or would they simply be doing their best to allocate a finite number of resources at their disposal? Of course that isn't a perfect analogy, the abu gharib thing is over, the tsunami is mostly over, so they really don't have a major story pushing this one to the side. Hmm, odd that we hardly hear a peep about it in the mainstream isn't it? And the UN has had this happen with their 'peacekeepers' for decades, the first sex scandals started coming out in the 70s I believe. Of course you have to research it on your own, you'll never hear about it on the news.
I think it's a conspiracy theory, her-blog. If it's not on the news then it don't exist. Get you tinfoil hat her-blog you fucking conspiracy theorist bastard. Next her-blog will be telling us that the Easter Bunny is real.
Actually, according to my journalistic intincts on teh editorial desk, I'd say it was a matter of what was considered newsworthy ... of interest. A UN scandal on another continent? Or some event right here, that has a more immediate impact on American lives. That isn't bias. Again, that is just good news judgment.
'Or some event right here, that has a more immediate impact on American lives.' Like the tsunami on the other side of the world? Hell the media has reported on prince whatshisname wearing a nazi outfit more than they have reported on this. How does that have a more immediate impact here, on the daily lives of americans?
There are several factors that affect a stry's newsworthiness ... pull up a chair. Two key ones ... 1. Sheer magnitude of disaster. 2. Locality/potential impact on the readers' lives. The importance/ longevity of the tsunami story is in direct correlation to the digits in the casualty figure. That is why it is a big story. Here's another sad tip ... once teh Big Disaster story ages ... even if more people die than in the original tragedy, the story will be buried ... because the second factor will pre-empt it ... much like the current disaster in Darfur.
'1. Sheer magnitude of disaster.' A a royal idiot wearing a stupid costume has a 'sheer magnitude' of what? Apparently the scope of that horror was far greater than bluehelmets molesting children. '2. Locality/potential impact on the readers' lives' Both happened half way around the world, only one recieved attention.
In this case, we come to a secondary set of guidelines: * Shock value * Celebrity * Scandal You are right in that the first set of criteria don't support that story (but if a story that had that criteria did, it would hold priority over this one -- i.e., initial tsunami story would have trumped Nazi princes).
UN soldiers molesting children, does it have shock value? Sure. Does it, and the fact that it's been going on for decades constitute a scandal? Yes. Celebrity status, well I imagine the UN is a better known entity than a little prince from a little country. So I think it should be of more relevence. Now, which do you think you'd have an easier time finding? An article about englands nazi prince, or an article about the gestapo like tactics of the lefts beloved UN?
As much as the Right goes crazy with hatred for the UN, most of the public does not share that ... hence it doesn't draw as much interest.
Also, for me at least, I have to wonder how much truth there is to the allegations. The Right has been making up the most incredible lies and spin, in their attempts to demonize their opponents ... they have lost credibility. If they told me it was raining, I'd want to check, myself. Maybe there wasn't any truth to the allegations?
The allegations were made by the UN, they've taken actions (ineffective and half hearted as they may be) against these people. I highly doubt the UN would make up allegations against themself in a smear campaign to diminish their authority. And I would guess that the actions of UN peacekeepers is more interesting to the american public than prince adolph.
Ha ... on a rational level, yes. But after seeing the riff-raff at the local gun and knife show and realizing this is America ... I can see why it didn't happen. I have no confidence in the rationality of the masses. But that is what the public wants ... it isn't any mythical Liberal Media.
The 'riff-raff' at the gunshow you went to, which represent america, despise the UN and would love to hear about this story. The UN is a darling of the left, not conservatives. Of course how many of the common americans that disgust you so much are likely to work for CBS? Or any news agency?
herz: 1. They do not represent America. They represent a fearful, insecure, hate-filled subset of America. 2. The "darling" of the Left is balanced by the demonization from the Right. As is the case with almost any polarity, the Truth probably lies somewhere in between. 3. The folks that put me off probably do not work for any news agency ... I agree. I'd be amazed if they consumed news, much less contributed. (Note: I don't view FOX and other ideologue- massaging shows as news). So ... what is your point? That we all take a dive to the lowest possible denominator?
Yes, UN crimes should be reported and there have been thousands that the media has ignored. I'm not sure why.
It should but instead the media focuses on the latest who done it case, like the Michael Jackson trail, the Runaway bride and recently that girl who went missing at that vacation island. I’m not saying its right but the media only focuses on these types of cases to cover up what’s really going on.
