Cable or the dish?

I ask because I've been beaten about the head and shoulders with a series of commercials (maybe some of you have too), from the cable industry, that lying pack of rat bastiches (could teach the Bush Admin a thing or three about the art!). In these commercials, various "ordinary people" (read actors) proclaim that, after purchasing satellite service, they encounter all sorts of horrors. You know, if it rains, the picture goes out. If the wind blows, the pic goes, and they have to climb and CLIMB to readjust the dish. Finally, they've just hAD it with the dish, and they run out and get the Savior of Mankind, Cable!

Well, I have a buddy from high school who installs sat dishes for a living, and he tells me (showed me, on one occasion) that if your dish is blown out of alignment, you canNOT just pop up onto the roof and reset it with your bare hands, that you need a computer with an Net connection and a GPS unit to readjust the dish. And as for losing a signal, I've had my cable signal go out in windstorms as well (because, as the cable industry DOESN'T want the masses to realize, THEY get THEIR signal from a sat dish FIRST). And I've got my infamous story of Super Bowl XXXIV (the one that I missed the second half of because my cable went out without warning and stayed AWOL for four and a half days, with the company saying steadfastly that "they were showing no reports of outages anywhere", to which I held up my phone and let them hear the hundreds of angry Black men who were missing the Greatest Football Game Ever as they cursed in the streets).

But enough of my petty anger. My question- is the cable industry (who proudly sponsor the commercials) lying through its lower blowhole, or are they just presenting their side of the issue fairly?

They're giving a fair account, man!
You're being hosed, guy!

COMMENTS:
Ive used both cable and satelite and there is very little difference between them except to say that i get less pixel disturbance from cable.

I HATE CABLE. I have cable, but they took away the sci-fi channel. And, what they seem to be doing is taking all the good channels, and making them strictly for digital cable, leaving us with the basic cable with channels that show nothing but golf. I think golf is a boring watch, don't you?

here where it is hilly and there are lots of trees sat dishes are not so hot.
there are some rural areas where cable isn't available and so dishes, but the first thing the dish guy says is 'gotta cut down some of those trees'. oh yeah my 70 yr old walnut, hickory and catalpa trees.
screw that, some choice.
