prediction : political : SHOULD LOBBYISTS BE KICKED OUT OF WASHINGTON? [+] ballot by RobinGaylord created Fri Jan 14, 05 Last night I was watching ABC news and they did a story on the recent meeting between lobbyists and serving members of our government at some ritzy hotel in Arizona. Well one of the few interviews they were able to get before the speeches and festivities was with an energy lobbyist who stated (although I’m paraphrasing this is almost exactly what he said) “We have an agenda. We don’t try to hide that. We push to get laws passed that will lower environmental regulations in order to increase corporate profits.” Then the media was kicked out for the actual meeting or convention or what ever the hell it was, because the lobbyists were afraid that some of them may have been environmentalists. (I swear this is true). Of course this story brings up the obvious question – If this is the lobbyists only real purpose then why do we have them? I don’t want to live next to Love Canal or eat food that is contaminated, why should my taxes go toward putting a politician in office that will serve these punks? What do you think?
