WERE BIDEN, BOXER AND KERRY WAY TOO TOUGH ON CONDOLEEZZA RICE DURING THE CONFIRMATION HEARINGS?

[+] ballot by Barbara_Baby_Cakes
created Thu Jan 20, 05

Were the Democrats too harsh on the future Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice during the Confirmation Hearings, yes/no, and why or why not? The verbal exchange between Boxer and Rice was shameful at best. As a Democrat myself, I was appalled at the Democrats' behavior and questioning tactics and quite frankly, why did they not go after the Chimp instead? What are your views regarding the Confirmation Hearings?

Democrats should be ashamed.
No, the Democrats were not harsh, she lied, plain and simple.

COMMENTS:
She wasn't answering the questions. I'm afraid I didn't feel sorry for her.

p.s. whenever I think the Dems are being too harsh with someone, I think back to the grilling of Anita Hill by the Republicans. {{{shudder}}}
by mojo on Thu Jan 20, 05 11:46am [+]

The questioning seemed above-baord to me. Can't say the same for the answers.

"Don't impugn my integrity" ... they didn't ... Condoleeza did that herself when she became a front-woman for flawed Bush policies and then stonewalled.
by Cathexis on Thu Jan 20, 05 11:56am [+]

Excellent points Mojo. Although, should we begin to behave badly as do/did the Republicans? Now, don't misunderstand me, it is not beneath me to behave badly towards Republicans and/or Democrats as a measure to return in kind for bad behavior. However, I think the Chimp should be the one to be required to answer all those questions put to Ms. Rice. Yes, it is quite obvious that she was sent out there to take the blows for the Bozo and that is usually how it works in alot of cases. Also, Anita Hill is a registered Republican (Well, during the Clareance Thomas Hearings) and her own party attacked her like a pack of wolves, surprise, surprise. However, I expected better from the Democrats, go after the person who sent the messenger rather than the messenger herself.

Good point.

What a waste of time, Rice is simply a doormat. Does anyone in the administration actually listen to her? Every time she opens her mouth during a staff meeting I bet you dollars to donuts that everyone in the room smirks and rolls their eyes. How many Bush suppoerters actually have confidence in her? Would any Bush supporter vote for her for president?
by elvislennon on Thu Jan 20, 05 12:09pm [+]

I gotta believe it is for future reference. The more they grill her, the more she has to talk and we all know the more politicians talk the more likely they are to put their foot in their mouth and make great footage for a Michael Moore film. I gotta hand it to her, she handles the questions well (doesnt answer directly though) but she is obviously a sharp woman, however, I think Barbara did make clear that Rice is just another of Bush's lackeys with Bush's interests set ahead of the countries.
by Duckhead on Thu Jan 20, 05 12:21pm [+]

Well Rice did aid Bush in support of going to Iraq -- she was a big part of that as Nat'l Security Advisor. They should be tough on her -- I see nothing wrong with it.
by xxxxxxxx on Thu Jan 20, 05 1:00pm [+]

NO! The bitch IS and WORKS FOR a bunch professional liars.

She talked alot but said nothing. Which proved how skillful she is at lying.
by Grapost on Thu Jan 20, 05 5:02pm [+]

Excellent points Mojo, Council(keep up the good work, as I know you will), Cathexis, and Duckhead...
by Barbara_Baby_Cakes on Thu Jan 20, 05 5:30pm [+]

She just quoted from the Big Book of Republican Party Lies, same as every other Admin member has done.
by Truthseeker013 on Thu Jan 20, 05 7:17pm [+]

They're just angry that a minority slipped through their fingers like that, to rise to a powerful position.
by danny_mack on Fri Jan 21, 05 12:18am [+]

danny: Occasionally, you have discussed things in good faith. But to hear a Far Rightist make that accusation tells me that you are merely being a disengenuous weasel, at this time.

Must be convenient to have principles that shift 180 degrees, when convenient.
by Cathexis on Fri Jan 21, 05 8:28am [+]

LOL, do you really think that Mack is being a disengenuous weasel Cathexis? I had to check the username and read the comment twice from the sheer shock of it all...
by Barbara_Baby_Cakes on Fri Jan 21, 05 1:02pm [+]

So I disagree with other conservatives on some issues, then when I express right wings opinions you claim I make a 180? I am sorry that I don't tow the line of democrats or republicans, I try to make up my own mind depending on the issue.
by danny_mack on Fri Jan 21, 05 6:30pm [+]

Sure Bush has been pissing me off alot but I'll defend him when I agree with him.
by danny_mack on Fri Jan 21, 05 6:31pm [+]

She's Bush's backdoor bimbo: Condi the Concubine. What's Bush going to do next? Nominate his horse for Attorney General?

Oh...wait. We've already had that.
by cranky on Sun Jan 23, 05 2:02pm [+]

Boxer and Kerry are typical liberal Democrats, for sure.
by Kentucky_Yankee on Fri Feb 18, 05 3:52pm [+]

She is not running for president, so what does it matter if she endorsed the Bush policies? All she is doing is becoming Secretary of State, which doens't have the same powers as a president. She doesn't decide if we're going to war with a country, she is just a diplomat.
Matter of fact, Condi Rice has been one of the greatest diplomats in a long time. She is by far the most qualified person in this country to hold this position. The democrats aren't asking questions straight to president Bush, so they pick on a smaller target like Condi.

Democrats are full of hate.
by Dani_dysfunk on Fri Feb 18, 05 4:07pm [+]

^Oh and Republicans are full of love and compassion for their fellow humans...
by xxxxxxxx on Tue Oct 18, 05 12:09pm [+]

Speaking of hateful vitriol, we'll do a test here.

The question: Who was the keynote speaker for each party's national convention this year, and what was their main topic?

DEMOCRATS: Then-US Senate candidate Barack Obama, from Illinois, giving a heartfelt speech about American pride and ideals, laced with optimism about the future of America.

REPUBLICANS: Then-US Senator Zell Miller, screaming hateful vitriol about how the US needs to protect itself -- a very angry speech, capped by the ridiculous line of implying that John Kerry would protect us with spitballs.

Yeah, the Democrats are the party of hate...
