A HOUSE DIVIDED AGAINST ITSELF ...

[+] serious ballot by Cathexis
created Thu Jan 20, 05

Abraham Lincoln once said "A house divided against itself cannot stand." The Bush administration has created and nurtured unprecedented division in the US: Witness all of the Red State vs Blue State talk ... the less-than-genteel exchanges on sites like this (hello RR!) ... I have to wonder if Abe might not be on to something.

With about half the country bitterly opposed to the other half, with no intention of compromises, and being continually stoked by self-serving politicians ... will this division permanently weaken the US and hasten its decline as a Power?

COMMENTS:
I have to wonder if they haven't introduced a pervasive and permanent trend. Me ... I don't see an end to it ... not as long as the NeoCons have control of the GOP.

The only thing worse than your argument is the way so many are led by the nose into believing the claptrap spouted by said neocons.

I hope not, but it's a bad day in Black Rock.

we can only hope so, otherwise there will be a third world war fairly soon i would imagine.

America needs to learn the value of humility, and not bathe in the pool of self worship quite so often.

"The Bush administration has created and nurtured unprecedented division in the US"

Um, look at the 2000 presidential election you idiots. The country was already deeply divided before Bush was ever in office.

Why use schoolyard names? If you have a good argument, there's no need to insult people by calling them 'idiots'.

(IF you have a good argument.)

danny: Aside from your engaging and non-divisive style, let me ask "Have you forgotten a major cause of the 2000 divisiveness?"

God, but you seem to have one heck of a short and selective memory.

However back then he was considered a moderate Governor.

Which I personally still believe he is, moderate, and not nearly as conservative as he should be.
