COMMENTS:
Examine the story of Cain and Able. After Cain kills his Abel, God does not take Cain's life in retribution. Cain is set free to wander the earth. The mark of Cain is often interprted a form of punishment, but it is actually a form of protection. The mark serves as God's warning to all that nobody better touch Cain or they'd have God to deal with. So you see, there is evidence from the literature that Jews did not condone capital punishment. I suspect that Jews rarely used capital punishment among themselves. It would have been counter productive to kill off their race when everyone else and their brother was also trying to kill them. Close knit groups surrounded by enemies don't see a need for capital punishment--unless, of course, an outsider commits the crime. Best guess, Jesus was probably against the murder (be it crime or punishment) of any Jew.
A shame that many will harden their hearts and ignore these words because they don't affirm what some people already believe ... Pseudo-Christians: If there is a Christian God and a day of judgment, when you cry "But I didn't know ...!" ... what are the odds you'll be told "But I had mojo post a ballot!"?
The bulk of Man's laws will always be in conflict with God's laws. I guess one would have to believe what is written in the bible to give an absolute response as using the bible as a reference platform. I am not implying that I do not belive all that is written in the bible. I am however saying that, if Capital Punishment is going to be instituted in a society, I belive that, at least it should be distributed equally without regards to ones race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious and political affiliation.
Jesus would be totally against it. On the other hand, if the old testament is anything to go by, God would be all for it.
But Jesus IS God aint he, so bit of a morally dichotomy there methinks lol.
what do you mean, an innocent man? he plotted treason, and caused a riot. he was executed for that. guilty as charged.
He'd be all for it! After all, where would Christianity be today if He had gotten probation?
Jesus works for the conservatives, so he would probably be for it.
Christianity and the world would be better off if the old testament was forgotten.
I bet he'd be outside one of the jails waiting for the lights to dim with all the other forgiving Christians.
Oops. Jesus wasn't a Christian.
"Christianity and the world would be better off if the old testament was forgotten." Yeah good idea, screw common law derived from the ten commandments!
Jesus wasn't innocent..he incited rebellion and the punishment for that was death and... he knew it!
