I know what you mean Larry. It bothers me as well. Mostly because I want them to know that we don't ALL feel that the US is the most important, the best, the only country in the world. I am proud of my country but recognize that there are many other wonderful countries that have a say in the goings on of our world. It's frustrating and humiliating to be thought of as puritanical hypocrites that are self-loving, war mongers who only care about making more money. I hope, in the future, we are able to do away with these images of the US.
Yes, it is important to care about what other countries think; liek it or not, we're all on teh same planet and this requires degrees of interaction and cooperation. Bad reputations (and a rep for "Not playing well with others") get in the way of this.
BTW, not all of us lump all conservatives under the same umbrella, nor do all of us view Bush as representative of true conservative beliefs.
I care. I've lived in other countries and IT MATTERS. We are not a remote island nation. We rely on others, as they rely on us. It reminds me of a news report I saw during the tsunami horror. An airplane carrying food and meds attempted to land on a remote Indonesian island. What they saw when they looked out of the plane window was a native guy, standing on the beach with a spear pointed at the plane. Clear message: don't land here. The people didn't want help because their culture was insular and they hated and feared outsiders. Let's not become that man on the beach.

Good point Mojo.
If your friendly to Americans I will be friendly to you. If your not then i will do the exact same back.
you can be sure its not just the United States, because i have lived in Britain, Canada and America and they are all looked at in different ways as i am sure it is the same with many countries
It bothers me too. They get such a myopic (?) view of what we are all about. But aren't we the country everyone wanted to emigrate to? And they always want our money. I have a problem with being politically categorized as well, because my feelings tend toward conservative, but I too do not support all the policies.
I care. But I'm not going to lose any sleep over them.
