dosen't matter if she were, what I find interesting is no one is talking about her being first black women secretary of state, we just did a report on minorities in goverment and when Jimmy Carter appointed andrew Young as first black UN ambassador and when Clinton appointed madelyn albright as first women secretary of state, it was considered a mile stone, have we progressed so that this is no longer an important step for women or blacks, would be great if we have, or is it that anyone Bush appoints, is considered irrelevent?

even though I am opposed to almist everything she stands for, I believe it is a step forward to see a black woman gain a position of some power in the US administration, just as long as it isnt just tokenism.

Hey Steel, how does "tokenism" differ from, "White Skin Privilege?" Certainly I believe Bush made her his choice of Secretary of State just as he made the choice to select Cheney as his VP (out of Cheney's loyaly and support) and his other cabinet staffmembers who supported him as President. Rice does not possess Powell's credentials and experience. However, presently, she is the most cerebral person in that administration and I believe if she had turned down his offer to become Secretary of State, I shrudder to think what the results of that decision may have cost us all. However, I do believe she is too devoted to him and that Powell may have decided to get out while he had some self respect left....

That's the problem, Steel. She IS nothing more than a talking head, parroting the Bush Admin's policies. As for the lesbian angle, nah. Don't buy it. I know several lesbians, and they all say that she's straight. Who am I to argue witht the experts?
