WHY DOES THE PAST MURDERS OF JEWS IN AUSCHWITZ RECEIVE A GREAT DEAL MORE ATTENTION THAN THE PAST/PRESENT MURDERS OF OTHERS IN THE U.S.?

It was reported that, World leaders and death camp survivors mourned victims of the Holocaust on the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp, gathering Thursday at the place where Nazi doctors once sent new arrivals to the gas chambers. Some 1.5 million people, most of them Jews from across Europe, died in gas chambers or of disease, starvation, abuse and exhaustion at Auschwitz and Birkenau, the most notorious of the death camps set up by Adolf Hitler to carry out his "final solution," the murder of Europe's Jewish population. Six million Jews died in the Nazi camps, along with several million others, including Soviet prisoners of war, Gypsies, homosexuals and political opponents of the Nazis. I am sympathic to the 6 million lives that were lost during Hilter's murderous rampage. However, why is it that, the murders of Native Americans and Africans to this country during the slave trade (it is estimated that, between 120-150 million Africans died during the trasnportation process to the so call NEW world through diseases, hunger, murder, and suicide)and in captivity. However, if members of those groups discuss marking any anniversary of their history or their ancestors coming to America, and their maltreatment, members of both groups are told to get over it, I am not responsible for what my ancestors did to yours, that is in the past, blah, blah, and some more blah, blah. What are your views about the difference in how people respond to the past/present maltreatement of Blacks, Jews, Native Americans, and other ethnic groups?

Europeans work harder at correcting a wrong than Americans.
Americans prefer to move forward than dwelling on the past.
America haven't been good at acknowledging wrongs
Jews run the media, banks, etc.

COMMENTS:
more recent than slavery and genocide of native americans I guess might be part of the reason, but don't just pick on the usa, countries around the world , spain for example in the new world slaughterd natives of the america's even before usa was established . But yeah , their suffering should be reconized also

History is written by the victors. If the Nazis had won the war there would be no remembrance. Hitler himself was well aware of the possible effects of this genocide and in early speeches shouted slogans such as 'Who remembers the Armenians'. The Turks had killed millions of Armenians at the start of the 19th century. The world didn't care then and doesn't care now. The Armenian genocide is generally regarded as the event that coined the word 'genocide'.

In my opinion it is a good thing that we do not forget the horrors inflicted at Auschwits and Birkenau. But I am saddened to think that over 22 million Russians lost their lives in the same war and yet no great deal is made of that.

Sorry that should be 20th century not 19th.

I am not picking on the USA, I am merely posing a question that not only does it need to be asked, but most importantly answered. Also, I asked the question in the context of why presently the anniversary of each passing year for both Native and African Americans (in America because it is the place where not only in the past injustices have been leveled against both groups, but continues to be) it is not given the same recognition nor respect. America needs to have this question not only posed, but also, discussed and answered no matter how difficult it is to confront a part of history that was brutal, unjust, and anmimalistic in all its intend. This is apart of American History that many Americans do not enjoy discussing and I do understand that. However, the notion and/or the perception that I maybe picking on the USA for her past and continue unjust laws against American citizens really does not speak to her guilt in its totality and she needs to and will be held accountable.

More attention? Are you serious? Does O.J. ring a bell?

Excellent point regarding the Russian's loss of life BP, that to need to be given the same recognition and respect...

What does OJ Simpson have to do with this matter? Ok, I'll do you one as well, duh, uh uumm, does Jeffrey Dahmer ring a bell? Uh uummm, does, the two individuals in Jasper Texas who dragged Mr. Bryd to his death ring a bell? I mean really, OJ, Jeffrey Dahmer, and the two murdering trash in Texas has nothing to do with institutionalized racism. Certainly, the two individuals in Texas is a small entity in the larger picture. The leaders set a certain climate in the country and the two brain surgeons in Texas follow their lead. I think you are on some level comparing apples and oranges Elvis, just my perception regarding your example of course.

I said the others should be reconized also, and my statement of, don't just pick on the usa, was only meant to say other countries have not so nice past, bp used Russia, I used natives of the america's spain slaughtered.

yep prep, exactly
by larrynelmira on Thu Jan 27, 05 12:18pm [+]

Living memory? You have Americans still being murdered by other Americans based on their hue. I appreciate your point Prep, however, make no mistake, there those whom are presently living memories of acts of bruality against them and for those who did not survive those acts, their family members are left behind to live those memories of such acts. No matter what, Ameicans can not in good conscience continue to say, "With liberty and justice for all," without pausing and shuddering from the sheer hypocrisy of uttering those words. Just an observation and your input Prep is well taken...

but GAWD!, I'm getting soooooo tired of the incessant reminders of what I like to call, "the Jewish Holocaust"..you see, there's been LOTS of holocausts..the Irish Famines, the native American experience the black slavers, the Cambodians, Rwanda..so why is it that we only hear about the "Jewish Holocaust"?..everybodys ancestors were discriminated against at one time or another.. the Jewish community likes to be quoted as saying "Never Again"..well it's going on right now..somewhere.. I guess they mean to say "Never again",( for the Jews only..)
