PAYING TO KEEP THE ENVIROMENT CLEAN

[+] ballot by ABC
created Fri Jan 28, 05

Recycling levies take effect Feb 1 in Alberta, anyone who buys a TV or computer has to pay, $10 for a PC, $12 for a monitor, $45 for a bigscreen TV etc. I has made my day rather busy as everyone want to buy before it comes into effect. Would it bother you to have to pay these fees so that the enviroment stays cleaner because the items are properly disposed of and recycled?

COMMENTS:
No. This goes back to my comment on a different ballot about people trying to put a monetary value on our environment. People don't seem to give a damn because their human instinct is just that THEY survive and they don't give a damn what the world will look like in 100 years.

No, I wouldn't mind. The "costs" to environment are real, but Business fails to recognize these in their accounting because it is a shared expense, vs one that affects them, specifically and exclusively.

But the costs are still there and they still add up.

No, I don't mind paying the recycling fee. I just don't believe it will be put towards cleaning up the environment.

Hey! I wonder if this will boost the US sales of these items?
by HBinVegas on Fri Jan 28, 05 2:06pm [+]

Why can't we do something like that over here, instead of rewarding people for being wasteful (e.g., tax breaks for people who buy SUVs)?
by mojo on Fri Jan 28, 05 2:06pm [+]

As long as they're based on sound economics, these fees are justified.
