I will admit that, if true, this was much higher than I expected. If this holds or improves, with few or no casulaties, this will be good news.
geez, thats higher than a lot of established democracies, we really do take this voting thing for granted. One time I didnt vote because I just didnt "have the time" well I actually took the three hours off from work to do stuff that I needed to do, and here are people who could get killed by going and they go anyway, true courage.
If it's true, then we should be embarrassed by our turn-out..(or lack thereof)
I hope that's true. I know a lot of iraqis did vote. It would be such a positive turn on something that was really getting way too out of hand.
DO you know why it's true? Because it used to be illegal not to vote in Iraq when Saddam was in power. When he used to claim 99.999% victory, that number was accurate. People who didn't vote went to jail. People voted out of fear because they didn't know any better, and because they wanted democracy.
In fact, we ought to be embarrased by it. In their first free and democratic election, they outdid us on turnout. And NOT by a piddling margin. Aren't WE supposed to be handing out the democracy lessons?
Oh man, we are looking sooo stupid right now..
Anyone who thinks that America will simply allow Iraq to become an independent democracy is living in a fantasy world.
If that doesn't encourage you you must be John Kerry or Ted Kennedy! LOL! To the moron that thinks everyone whom believes that America will let Iraq alone to become a free-standing democracy is living in a fantasy world; Really? How's Japan doing these days? LOL! A fool's history is one not known! Read, learn, study and be comfortable with the gift of knowledge.
But I thought americans were forcing democracy on a people who hate democracy? Why would they risk a rather likely death to wait in long lines in the sun to support a system they hate? This is upsetting my carefully laid leftwing mantra, oh I wish mr moore would make a 'documentary' about it explaining it all to me. I know it's a bush conspiracy, and that iraqis hate democracy, it has to be.
Dad2DaBone. You are the one who seems to be ignorant of the influence America has on foreign countries. Especially those countries that have strategic importance or abundant natural resources. Oh yeah, and most Japanese hate America's guts. Why? Because America nuked two cities full of civilians when there was no need at all. How much research have you done into the candidates for the Iraqi elections? Hello her-blog you loon.
