As we all know, mergers always result in both huge payoffs to the upper-echelon executives and "lower-echelon" employees being laid off. How do you feel about all this?

Bad for working people
Another move towards open mega-corporate rule.

COMMENTS:
The one good aspect of the Proctor & Gamble / Gillette merger is that it will amass enough power to be able to stand up to the pricing pressures of Wal-Mart.

Conversely, the creation of another potential bully, this time on teh supply side rather than distribution, will undoubtedly have its own costs to us, down the line.

And finally, as you noted, the traditional blood-letting of employees is one more spike in the Real Economy, as far as we working peopel are concerned.

I've always thought that if I were a business person who made these types of decisions I would never buyout a company if it meant laying people off. Wachovia just merged with Southtrust Bank & we found out that will cost alot of Southtrust's people their jobs here, the numbers keep going up so it's a big story here, but I suppose it's legal, not too sure there shouldn't be some kind of caps on the number you can just let go but not much we everyday folks can do I guess.
