It's not like these women are slaves, and it costs a fortune.
A guy I know from college did it. Hey paid $6000 for a 2 week trip to St. Petersburg, Russia. He went to several huge dating sessions with girls he had corresponded with for the two previous months.
You have to understand, it's not like these girls have a lot of prospects at home. Most of them are looking for a better life across the ocean. Some are sleeping their way to citizenship. In a country when prostitution is not only legal, but is the #1 job for women, is it really a shock that most of the mail order brides are coming out of the former USSR?
Anyways, after he spent the 6 grand to go to Russia, he had to fill out and file about a hundred forms, go through US embassy interviews, and pay to have the girl flown back to the States.
He was one of the lucky ones. They are still together, 5 years later, and she has told me that the life she has here is far better than what she could have expected at home. She has her own car, she and her child have access to excellent medical care, and always have enough to eat.
This is not slavery.
