SINCE ABSTINENCE ONLY EDUCATION HAS BEEN PROVEN TO INCREASE STD AND TEEN PREGNANCY RATES THEN WHY IS IT BE IMPLEMENTED?

I saw a news report that said studies have shown that abstinence programs will on average keep a teen a virgin one year longer than they would remain other wise, but because the programs he or she took in school claimed that condoms and other birth control are ineffective then they are far less likely to use them. Also areas where teens were given Abstinence Only sex education before Bush took office had higher STD and teen pregnancy rates. This is one of those times I wish politicians would present the facts so that the public could act more responsibly. Even if the majority of Americans wanted Abstinence ONLY sex education (which many poll suggest that they didn’t) I don’t think we would be doing anyone any favors by granting them legislation that would not offer education on birth control. In the town I live in they are not allowed to teach any thing about birth control except to say that they don’t always work and the majority of parents don’t think this is right. Shouldn’t they have a say in how their kids are educated on life and death scenarios? What do you think? Since Abstinence Only Education has been proven to increase STD and teen pregnancy rates then why is it be implemented?

Bush isn't acting in the best intrest of the American public.
The religous right has gone too far.
Conservatives only care about appearances
Right wing doesn't care about FACTS
It has not, you're misinformed.
The Left is Delusional

Because too many people believe they can legislate results rather than work with people.

There is no such thing as abstinence only education in public schools.

It really shouldn't be the role of government to tell people how to fuck, or not. Especially those same schools are graduating funtionally illiterate kids.

Let them know that there will be consequences for their actions, that'll be a useful lesson when dealing with all sorts of lifes problems, and it seems to be ignored in schools today.

They should also learn every method of avoiding teen pregnancy and STD's.
