U.N. SEX CRIMES IN CONGO: CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS WAS NEVER WIDELY REPORTED IN THE NEWS?

[+] serious ballot by Donny_Honey_Cakes

"The U.N. is there for their protection, so when the protectors become violators, this is particularly egregious," said Anneke Van Woudenberg, a senior researcher with Human Rights Watch who investigated the allegations on behalf of her organization. "This is particularly bad."

I found this reported at ABC News on line but have never see or heard of it anywhere else. See the whole 4 page article for yourself at:
http://abcnews.go.com/2020/UnitedNations/story?id=489306&page=1

sad how the media decides that the public won't be informed of some things
people should be at least as outrages about this as the prisoner abuse scandal
events like this are often swept under the rug
all of the above
It doesn't fit the media's agenda,UN good Bush bad
Double standards

How can we bash President Bush for not obeying the wishes of the U.N. if they are viewed as a violent and corrupt organization?
by lowerclassbrats on Fri Feb 18, 05 2:32pm [+]

I think Herzog made a ballot about this very thing a few weeks ago, and yes it should be more well known and rapists should be shot.

lcb: Bad members of any organization should be dealt with. But I don't know that it is fair to generalize this incident to represent the entire UN.

dont worry LCB you can still can bash President Bush
by ABC on Fri Feb 18, 05 2:37pm [+]

Don't worry I will continue on issues such as immigration and his decision not to halt the prosecution of Marine Second Lt. Ilario Pantano.

I'm not saying the whole UN is to be associated with these actions, but it's not being reported because it doesn't fit the media's agenda of UN good Bush/US military bad.
by lowerclassbrats on Fri Feb 18, 05 2:44pm [+]

Yes, unfortunately, I can. This isn't the first time that UN aid workers have been caught red-handed molesting helpless refugees and defenseless kids. They (the UN) supposedly brought in measures to curb actions like these, but obviously those measures weren't stringent enough. Those scumbags should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and banned from ever traveling to the countries where those atrocities (I do not use that word lightly) took place.

The UN good/ Bush bad equation doesn't even equate. Both should be given a glaring spotlight for their efforts and actions, good or bad. But especially bad.... so we can keep a weather eye on developments. What good is the media if it doesn't even dare report the facts? The mainstream media are really lame - a bunch of sniveling dogs and yellow-bellied cowards.

This, as was the oil-for-food scandal and the sexual-harassment matter just coming to light, are the actions of a select few, just as the prisoner-abuse matter was. Accountability and responsibility should be meted out equally.
