SHOULD LCD JUST MAKE IT SO YOU CAN ONLY GIVE POSITIVE KARMA?

[+] ballot by TheDoof
created Sun Feb 20, 05

Since most users aren't very good with their negative Karma issuance, should LCD just drop the negative Karma thing? And I've noticed it really has no positive effect on correcting a person's behavior, like it should. I've had good choices rated bad and bad choices overlooked. What's the deal? Should we just support a happy, feel-good site where everyone is a winner? It seems that's what everyone wants. Should we ditch the bad Karma thing altogether?

Yes, LCD should drop the negative Karma system
No, it keeps people in their places

COMMENTS:
This should be in the private category . Lucky for you, I'm not one of those Assholes that give out neg karma for the slightest thing, like you just did to me. But I'm sure someone will now it's been pointed out.

I don't think it's that we refrain from giving bad kharma. I think it's that the majority of us aren't big enough d*ckheads to deserve any. It's pretty simple. Exercise common courtesy and you won't get bad kharma. And start spelling it kharma. H's are the new thing.

"Exercise common courtesy and you won't get bad kharma"

Do you REALLY belive that? Theres always some power crazy asshole who will attack you uneccessarily
by kingAlfredTheGreat on Sun Feb 20, 05 9:20pm [+]

Y'know, a lot of people just get so worked up over it. I thought the whole idea was to discourage bad posts, not to disintegrate into some mud slinging fight. The only bad experiences I've had on this site have been from rating others negatively where I felt it was appropriate, and I ALWAYS rate commensurate with the level I feel appropriate. I don't automatically give a -5 or a +5, I determine the level I think it meets. I guess this might say I shouldn't ever rate anyone negatively, but what is the point of the "Kharma" system if people don't even use it correctly?
by TheDoof on Sun Feb 20, 05 9:31pm [+]

"There's always some power crazy @sshole who will attack you uneccessarily..." LOL. Maybe there is...I just haven't been lucky enough to meet one I guess.

Doof and King-
Thank you for your insane spelling of kharma. I want the entire site to be kharma rather than karma. HELP ME convert it.
by ThisIsNate on Sun Feb 20, 05 9:40pm [+]

Telling someone to 'shut up' is not worthy of neg karma. You seem to be doing a lot of crying because I told you it wasn't right. I didn't revenge rate, and I'm not getting all tearful on the ballots cos you downrated me. Maybe you should drink less than two beers next time. You won't get so emotional.
by InternalColonel on Sun Feb 20, 05 9:44pm [+]

Ballot #60962 and #60657 should give others a nice indication of the type of person you are, IC.

By the way IC, when I said free speech, I mean of course in the traditional sense, as in the philosophies of Gordon and Trenchard. Freedom of speech is a God-given right, but that does not include abusive or harmful language towards others. Freedom of speech CAN be revoked.
by TheDoof on Sun Feb 20, 05 9:52pm [+]

You know IC, that was actually funny. Really. I don't want a beef with you, but you seem to enjoy provoking others. That's all I'm saying.
by TheDoof on Sun Feb 20, 05 9:53pm [+]

God! are you still crying, get over it!
by InternalColonel on Sun Feb 20, 05 9:54pm [+]

Boo hoo! Waa waa WAAAAHHH!
by TheDoof on Sun Feb 20, 05 9:58pm [+]

Just rate me negatively and get it off your chest. Really, I want you to. I know you want to.
by TheDoof on Sun Feb 20, 05 10:00pm [+]

I'll admit I can be hot headed. You go back and look at them ballots, every comment I make is in retaliation to someone starting with me, even if it started on another ballot. I also don't hold a grudge unless someone keeps it going with sly comments. Look at that ballot again, then look at Patches favourite user list, same with Larry. I've never caused sh*t on here just for the fun of it. And be honest, you rated me down tonight, I sent message, that should have been the end of it. A lot of others would have automatically started a karma war with aliases.
by InternalColonel on Sun Feb 20, 05 10:04pm [+]

Well, Internal, for what it's worth I'm sorry. I don't mean any permanent hard feelings. I realize patch has since made up, but I rated before I noticed that, so what do you want?
by TheDoof on Sun Feb 20, 05 10:07pm [+]

That's fair enough, for me. Ignore all my comment around tonight's ballots, lol, I'll do the same.
by InternalColonel on Sun Feb 20, 05 10:16pm [+]

I am sorry about it, truly, but when you block messages, you don't exactly leave any options for resolution other than my public messages, or creating ballots. :)
by TheDoof on Sun Feb 20, 05 10:18pm [+]

Haha, good point. I didn't think of that.
by InternalColonel on Sun Feb 20, 05 10:21pm [+]

** karma **
by InternalColonel on Sun Feb 20, 05 10:22pm [+]

Yes, do away with the negative Karma system, and watch a third of the users leave this site because their only power in life would be gone...
by Barbara_Baby_Cakes on Sun Feb 20, 05 10:23pm [+]

Every single time I try to give negative karma to someone who obviously deserved it, that person always wanted to start a war with me. I think a good solution to this problem would be to have negative karma ratings apply to ballots, comments, and choices ONLY and not users, and have positive karma apply to both items and users.
by nuckinfutz on Sun Feb 20, 05 10:39pm [+]

And the bad ratings wouldn't show up in karma reports either.
by nuckinfutz on Sun Feb 20, 05 10:42pm [+]

That's a great idea, nuck!

Take away our weapons, maybe we'll play nice... that's kinda the idea.
by TheDoof on Tue Feb 22, 05 12:35am [+]

Hmmm, well now you come to mention it.. why do we need kHarma at ALL then?
Are we so insecure in our views that we need to have them rewarded with virtual cookies and milk? Why cant we just be happy to have had our say in public?

Who knows? Who cares? Who dares to care? and who cares to dare to care? Care bears? Grizzly Bears and pears!
