culture : PUBLIC SMOKING RANT [+] serious ballot by Syneil created Tue Feb 22, 05 fairly safe to assume that anyone smoking in the streets of western "civilisation" is aware of what it's doing both to themselves and everyone else on the street around them. And yet.. there they are, puffing away, in full knowledge that they are killing themselves, and more importantly the people around them. How can we take that other than they are doing it deliberately to cause harm to passers-by? And that is an attack. Analogy: imagine a world where patting people on the back releases toxins into their bloodstream, which, over time will cause them to die a slow and painful agonizing death. Not only that though, it also releases the toxins into the patter's bloodstream. If someone on this world went around the streets patting people on the back (because it gives them some vague sense of security, they think it makes them cool etc) we'd kick their asses on sight! I call on all non-smokers to attack public smokers on sight (I leave it up to you to decide what form of attack you use), it is, after all, self-defence. The question then: Am I over-reacting?
