COMMENTS:
Christians want to rule the word and have it no other way. Anything that gets in the way of their steamroller of ignorance must be banned. Banning the bible would be quite funny though.
I agree with your one of four statistic... most Christians I meet are TERRIBLE spokesmen of their religion (I've met a few exceptions on B&W however). I often find I know more than them about their own religion, and most haven't even read the Bible, but instead believe in what they are told about the Bible (see my ballot #66997 for an example). It might be a Good Thing to ban the Bible, as it would probably get more Christians to read it.
I'd love nothing better than to outlaw the thing. But it's in the interpretation where the greatest damage is done. It's up to the Religious Right to teach their parishoners what the REAL intent of the Word of God is, not what their personal divinations might be.
I'm a christian but i don't know of any cd's or books that i want to ban.
Many of your contemporaries do. Harry Potter, for instance. Or The Last Temptation of Christ, Scorcese's controversial movie.
I like Harry Potter myself. Some do go to far with their beliefs, like with sponge-bob being gay, lmao.
jpcarulei- you are full of sh*t
I agree with runyon, I too am a Christian who doesn't want to ban any CD's or books. Can you be any more generalizing? Let's all stereotype, shall we?
Doof-I think the anti-Harry Potter crowd is definitely not representative of all Christians. I have read all the Harry Potter books and I have seen all of the movies-and I love them. People need to lighten up. They are fiction and a basic good vs. evil story, which some Christians just refuse to see. To be honest I have always wondered if the Naysayers have even read the damn things! Oh, don't get me started on this subject. I get so mad about it!
Tell me about it. If you want to see them as evil, you're going to, and I definitely don't think the Harry Potter banners represent all Christians, but they are a vocal group that must be reckoned with. One Christian in particular had heard bad things about it, and his daughter had a copy. He confiscated it, got around to reading it, and now he's a big fan and says there are Christian messages all throughout the books! I'll just give a few examples: Gryffindor house is represented by a benevolent lion-esque creature (lion of God), while the evil Slytherin is represented by a snake (Satan). No character (including the most evil in the books) EVER invokes evil spirits to do their bidding, which is what the Bible is against. They only use spells and charms. He also says it's a classic struggle between good & evil, and good eventually triumphs.
Doof, I really enjoyed your post. Those are very good points, and ones I can bring up to any Harry Potter opposers I know.
I agree with the DOOF!!!
You don't know what your talking about. There are many Christian rock bands.
This is the deadliest book ever written. The Bible was one reason the Europeans felt superior to the Africans/Asians/Native Americans. They also believed it was their duty to spread Christianity (the way they saw it), and I believe this was the jumping-off point for imperialism. Which is not a good thing.
