COMMENTS:
It makes perfect sense to me because it's in keeping with Bush's attitude. It's more proof of Bush's arrogant disrespect for the rest of the world. Great question, Larry. You sure keep up with what's happening in the world!

I second mojo's comment
It is a strange posting isn't it. Judging by Bolton's own views and comments on the UN it could be firey appointment. Could it be they want a fox in the chicken coup? Perhaps they think a straight talker might get things done, perhaps they think a hawl like Bolton might help bring the UN to its knees. Perhaps there is no logic to it at all. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps ...

It's a curious appointment. Of course, it does fit in with the Cowboy Bush mentality: put people in charge of an institution you hate, who hate the institution. Put an anti-environmentalist in charge of the EPA, put a pro-corporate predator/anti-union person in as the head of the Department of Labor, etc. Of course the intent is to destroy the institution and/or use it for their own selfish ends. I'll be interested to see if it works. Does the Cowboy still think he can take over the world?
Of course you want someone in there who is going to question the UN and not just agree without question or thought. Also, his comments on Kim were accurate and North Korea was never serious about arms talks anyway. Please! They didn't just spend all of that money developing them, just to give them up.
Maybe to show the UN just how little respect the US has for them, a move that is long over due.
