This reminds me of an old saying. I can't remember who initially said it, but I attribute it to John Crowley, as that's the first author I saw put it in print. "Genius can live in rags, ignorant of its surroundings." Possibly why I live in a mass of stacked papers and refuse to cut my hair for months on end.
They aren't valued.
