I've known many. Look at some of our most wonderful writers and artists. Death seems to be the only thing that finally puts them on the map.

Conversely, rip-off artists and pencil-pushers are often rolling in money.

Why is that?

Society does not appreciate 'sensitive, artistic types'.
Talented people are usually not good self-promoters.

This reminds me of an old saying. I can't remember who initially said it, but I attribute it to John Crowley, as that's the first author I saw put it in print. "Genius can live in rags, ignorant of its surroundings." Possibly why I live in a mass of stacked papers and refuse to cut my hair for months on end.
