Full quote:

I confess I am concerned that we may be reaching the point where too many memebers of the press fear being labeled unpatriotic or partisan if they challenge the actions or decisions of political leaders of any persuasion. What the country doesn't need, particularly just now, is a press that is docile - never mind obsequious or intimidated. I don't agree with those who say, 'It's already happened,' but I do recognize there is some danger.

Frank words by a controversial media figure. Do you agree with the sentiments expressed?

Yes, I agree - a free press is part of a healthy society.
No, I disagree - the press should only share news that favors our leaders.

The US has the worst track record when it comes to 'News' I've ever seen. It has had a great history of 'free press' thinking back to the days or Woodward and Bernstien (sp) at the Post but sadly things do seem to be changing.

The change of how the press deliver the News and what is considered News worthy came about when G.W. Bush took office. He and his croonie use Nazi like tactics shovering socks down the throats of Newspaper reporters and Editors. I am not surprised, remember when members of the WhiteHouse became upset when photos were shown of all the caskets of dead American Soldiers to the world? I rest my case...Its about an Administration that is involved in alot of under handed and ugly activities that other people outside the U.S. (like the incident of the U.S. Soldiers shooting into the car with the released Italian Hostage News Reporter)that are well aware of. Anyone that reports the truth about this Administration will always be dubbed Unpatriotic, and why should anyone care what those ly

(counting the number of times I've been referred to as either "commie" or "pinko", needing extra fingers and toes...)

Journalists are to report the news-not give there opinion on it or make the news. I don't see why everyone seems to forget that. I don't even see why this is an issue, but it certainly doesn't seem like the press has any problems being biased in there "reporting" in recent years.

Check out FOX Views for shite reporting ...
by B_P on Thu Mar 10, 05 10:29am [+]

Yes, if only journalists felt free to challenge the administration by using forged documents immediately prior to the election to discredit the president. OF course they'd never do that.

No, I don't agree with the premise. There is plenty of anti-bush bias in the media. The left just likes to make themselves out to be victims all the times.

Besides: is a reporters job to 'challenge' the president, or present the facts as they occur?
by herzog on Thu Mar 10, 05 10:43am [+]

What do you mean shite reporting? And by the way, I am referring to all journalists whether they are biased toward republicans or democrats. Journalists, not editorialists or talk show hosts.
by ceejjj on Thu Mar 10, 05 11:12am [+]

Does reporting something bad that a person has done constitute biased reporting? E.G. Was the Clinton/Lewinsky coverage less biased than the coverage about Bush's mis-statements concerning weapons of mass destruction?

Just wondering.
by mojo on Thu Mar 10, 05 1:56pm [+]

B_P: can you cite an example of foxnews using forged documents to substantiated a story?

The press write stories for the highest bidder

I just counted. We almost made it 4 whole ballots without someone Bashing Bush. A NEW RECORD!

As far as the ballot goes, this is a loaded question. I don't agree with the ballot statement, but I agree that a free press is a CRUCIAL part of a healthy society.

Mojo- Clinton KNEW he was lying. Bush is just guilty of trusting some crappy intelligence. However, I don't think the two can be compared since I doubt a blowjob ever killed anyone. So I can't really say if one was more biased than the other, I'd say they were about even.

Bush didn't know he was lying. And bears don't sh*t in the woods. lol!
by mojo on Thu Mar 10, 05 5:49pm [+]

If you think the President was lying fine, but then explain why, armed with the same information George W. Bush had, did the Senate (including the Democrats) vote for the war in Iraq? And why does everyone overlook the Democrats role in this war?

ceejjj, I sure don't.
