As a U.S. citizen, I am already experiencing the repercussions. Being self-employed, I buy my own insurance. Expensive as it is, it does not cover the price of any medicine. The U.S. pharmaceutical prices are prohibitive, so without affordable medications from reliable foreign sources, I will have to go off at least one lifesaving drug that I have been buying for 5 years from abroad. Please bear in mind that the medications I buy are in blister-packs from the manufacturer, often a U.S. company. Safety is not an issue. We can still buy liquor and cigarettes everywhere, so it's clearly not a public health concern that motivates the Bush administration. They are catering to their pharmaceutical conglomerate friends who helped get them elected. How is this fair to working citizens, like the self-employed or the elderly (whose drugs are not covered by Medicare and who are on fixed incomes)? What do you think?
