COMMENTS:
To paraphrase the guy from "Network", "I'm mad as h__l, and I'm NOT gonna take it anymore!" Rat bastiches don't mind plundering a wildlife preserve in order to sate their oil lust, but when there's a reserve of equal size sitting right off the Florida coast which the Administration refuses to touch because Mister Bush's big brother begged him NOT to drill there, for "the sake of tourism"- just when I get tto the point of calm acceptance...
As bad as teh idea was; the way they went about it is reprehensible: sticking it as a budget item so it couldn't be filibustered. That is one dangerous precedent they're setting.
Plus, who in their right mind really believes we can drill our way out of an energy crunch?
I've heard arguments from both sides. I say open up an area with more potential.
Great idea. The area is so small, I believe less than one percent of the area. We are years from alternate technology and we need to start depending on ourselves for some of our oil supply instead of letting OPEC lord oil over us.
uncomfortable
God's forbid that OPEC 'lord it over us', I guess what is good for the goose isnt good for the gander.
Once again, history repeats itself with man's greed and lack of wisdom causing us to regress to the level of dumb beasts. I feel that our president and his administration have no perspective on the situation. Oil is a limited natural resource. We should devote more time planning for the future than looking for the solution now, without considering the consequences. It's like putting a band-aid on a hemorrhage. Surely there's a better way to resolve the situation, (not that drilling in Alaska is really resolving anything).
As I believe I said, we are still years away from an alternate energy source, so something has to be done now. It is not the governments job to find an alternate fuel source, that would be private industry. Also, no I don't want OPEC holding us over a barrel, who the hell does? How comes it's ok to environmentalists to drill everywhere but in America? Everyone uses oil in some way or another, so unless you have a better idea and come up with a viable alternate source, than really your not being genuine.
Even American oil executives concede that the US doesn't have enough left in the ground to meet all of our needs. And OPEC now only supplies a small percentage of our total input. Our real problem is coming from the massive increase in Chinese consumption.
Do I like the idea,no.is it a necessary evil, probably. You can't sit there and say it's wrong, yet still want to drive that suv.you can't sit there and blame opec,if you won't drill on your own land.Until we more than half heartedly try to find alternetive energy, and reduce our dependance on oil, some of this drilling is just going to have to happen in our backyard
