I love France.
I have not really heard of Americans hating France as much as the French finding us distasteful until recently. As far as that goes, you would have to ask a French person, since I harbored to dislike for them before the war.
*i.e., they either have never been there or don't understand the culture. I love France and the French. But when I was there I made an effort to speak the language and respect their culture - in other words, I treated them the way I would want to be treated.

Or 1.) We don't go to France because they hate Americans. 2.) We don't care about their culture and 3.) They are selfish pricks.
Many americans hate France because they were right about Iraq and don't want to admit that. Also, France has far better food.

Assuming that every American hates France is a bit silly in fact I dont know anyone who dislikes france.
I don't. I appreciate their many contributions to Western civilization but I think they're going down the wrong track and feel sorrow at the loss of such a great culture.
You would not have a country but for France's war with Britain.
What track are they going down the same one the USA persistantly chooses.

thc2883- Socialism has historically always had a strong influence in French culture. You want to know why the USA and France are not getting along? The answer is very obvious. Both nations have silly conservatives in power. Conservatives are always extremely nationalistic, have superiority complex, and lack diplomatic skills. When conservatives are in power in one of these countries there is bound to be tension. When conservatives are in power in BOTH the America and France- WATCH OUT! If the Democrats were in power in the US and the Socialists in power in France, the two countries would be getting along much more nicely.
I know they're just power hungry idiots.
Don't get me wrong, we're going down the wrong track too. Corporatism/ mercantilism is just as bad as socialism and will ultimately lead to the same fate. It's the scenic road to serfdom.
The french do have a reputation for being uptight, but, as always, this should not, and cannot rationally be generalised to the entire population
i don't hate the french, i've never even met a french person. but every single person i have met who has traveled in france says the french are rude, ill tempered weinies.
any place that relies on tourism so much is just silly to dis tourists, whatever their nationality.
p.s. some of these travel tales were from the 60's and 70's, so it has nothing to do with iraq.
i don't hate france and i know ppl who have travelled to france and say that if you don't act like an arrogant american - the french ppl are actually very nice
