WOULD YOU KEEP YOUR MEMORIES?

Fast forward to two hundred years in the future. Science now has the technology to go into a persons mind and "delete" certain memories, however, to remove the unhappy memory of a divorce or a loved one's death and all the pain that followed, you would lose the memory of that person entirely. It would be as though they never lived and you would go on with a happy life without the heartache. Would you give up the happy memories to wipe away the painful ones?

Yes
No

COMMENTS:
No, the good far outweighs the bad. I've had some bad times, but I wouldn't trade the good times to erase them. Not to mention I wouldn't want them playing around with my mind anyway (such as it is).

Oh when they've invented the machine to do that, you won't have any choice in the matter, especially if the EVIL right wing are still in power.

I would delete the memory of finding this site, I'd sure be a lot more productive.

I want to type in bold too! :(

depends on how bad the memories are, like traumatizing. Luckily, I've never been through trauma, but other ppl who've suffered so much, like in war, might opt for it

For some memories, yes.

In some sci-fi movie (can't recall the name), a supposition is made that we are the sum of our memories, both good and bad. And I wouldn't trade the bad stuff in particular for anything. They were the tools with which I learned much about myself and the world, how to function and move in society.
