Just wondering.

Unimportant - look at George W. Bush.
Important - check out George Orwell (or any newspaper, book, etc.)
Not sure (comment).

Important. Language frames discussion and imprecise, inaccurate, or limited tools will have a corresponding effect on ideas.
by Cathexis on Mon Mar 28, 05 1:14pm [+]

how did i know this would be about Bush
by RawIron on Mon Mar 28, 05 1:15pm [+]

"r u kdng me?" Netspeak is a scourge on the English language. Try getting a job with a resume like that.
by _Beelzebubba on Mon Mar 28, 05 1:19pm [+]

Actually, RawIron, this isn't about Bush. I merely used him as an example. Poor grammar and spelling detract from a person's message. It's not nit-picking -- it can change the whole meaning of a statement, often with disastrous or laughable results. George Orwell's excellent essay 'Politics and the English Language' illustrates the point. I think you'd enjoy it - it's funny and it makes a lot of sense.

We are living in the 1984 world. Congressman Joe on MSNBC actually said War leads to peace. Uh huh. War is peace! War leads to more war.
by FiddleFaddleOnLSD on Mon Mar 28, 05 1:27pm [+]

once again BBC i must ask.... what are you talking about?
by RawIron on Mon Mar 28, 05 1:33pm [+]

Ohhh i understand BBC,, you decided that since I commented on this ballot after Cathexis that it must mean my comment was aimed at him. I see how your simple mind works now. From now on i'll try to make everything as obvious as I possibly can for you. Now go drink some apple juice and watch Ninja Turtles while the adults continue with our discussion.
by RawIron on Mon Mar 28, 05 1:37pm [+]

very very very important. Look at George W Bush....
by keithsheen on Mon Mar 28, 05 1:43pm [+]

Mind you, in Bush's case, all the better to detract from the message. Makes half the voting population of the USA fail to notice what an evil and disgusting administration he's the figurehead for......
by keithsheen on Mon Mar 28, 05 1:45pm [+]

Anyway, RawIron, why shouldn't EVERY ballot be about Bush. He's f*cking the world up the back passage and it's our right to be really really pissed off about it.
by keithsheen on Mon Mar 28, 05 1:46pm [+]

Now, now, don't be that way RawIron, I think you need a timeout, go and stand in the corner in that round room, that should keep you busy for the remainder of the year...
by Barbara_Baby_Cakes on Mon Mar 28, 05 1:48pm [+]

Bushy was born in liberal Connecticut of wealthy, East Coast elitist parents, educated at liberal Andover, liberal Yale and liberal Harvard. Has horrible language skills and became an ultra-conservative. Coincidence? I think not.
by cranky on Mon Mar 28, 05 3:45pm [+]

Cranky, was that supposed to be a pro-liberal statement?
by Erasmus_Mason on Mon Mar 28, 05 4:14pm [+]

Ah yes, Barbara Baby Cakes, the Ted Kennedy of the B&W Democratic Party.... you really should let the rational Democrats talk. You make them look bad.
by Erasmus_Mason on Mon Mar 28, 05 4:20pm [+]

It is because I am rational son, you find it very difficult to swallow the truth...You and your senseless rantings make both political parties look bad, so scram...and don't ever open that sore underneath your nose to comment on adult conversations ever again, got it? Good...
by Barbara_Baby_Cakes on Mon Mar 28, 05 4:57pm [+]

mojo...
by magdalenasdollar on Mon Mar 28, 05 6:06pm [+]

Perhaps you could paraphrase the rational part for me again, I must have missed it while you were merely paraphrasing what RawIron and I said about you, inserted our names, and threw it back at us. You have the retorting skills of a third-grader from Missouri.
