A MATTER OF TRUST

[+] ballot by Tadema
created Sun May 01, 05

We all joke around about coming to visit each other but what if one of the B&W members you had a good online relationship with contacted you and really wanted to visit? Do you think you would really open your home to someone you had never met in person before?

Yes I would
No I wouldn't
Depends on the person

Hey, I'd welcome the visit. I've let insane people in my house before. Of course, I was related to them. Really, I wouldn't mind.

Like ZIG said, I would to a few people.

I've had to think about this quite often, because the majority of the female users and even some of the male users on this site are always trying to contact me about a rendezvous, I continue to stall them with excuses because I don't know what to say *sigh*
by jappy on Sun May 01, 05 7:31pm [+]

Uh oh Cletus.. you're a dead man! :)
by Tadema on Sun May 01, 05 8:38pm [+]

Maybe one user, but it would still be extremely weird. You never know though eh?

by Tadema on Mon May 02, 05 1:12pm [+]

Yeah, if they just needed a place for the night. I get the feeling I'll meet at least one of you in real life.
by thc2883 on Mon May 02, 05 1:49pm [+]

Sure ,why not.I let my wife in every night, and I don't even like her
by Quinn_the_Eskimo on Mon May 02, 05 10:03pm [+]

I would ... if I didn't still live with my parents.

That said, if anyone is in the vicinity of Iowa City, Iowa sometime after mid-August, you're more than welcome to stay at my place.

Tough question. Lots of variables. I'd be very cautious, I think.

Still, I think after a time here on B&W you get a sense of a person; possibly a more distilled, pure version of who someone is than you'd likely get face-to-face.

The ability to share your thoughts while remaining essentially anonymous probably yields a more accurate picture of a person.

Nonetheless, you'd probably want to progress through a series of steps, like they advise in internet dating (haven't partaken, and have no intentions): Meet in a public place, chat, go home. If still interested and feeling safe, another arranged meeting in public, a bit longer, perhaps dinner. This can progress gradually to more possibilities as the parties agree.

This world remains a place of myriad ugly possibility and people need to remain cognizant of this and act accordingly.

Having said all this, I don't have much fear of any person here, except, possibly, these damn neocons. :)

Good ballot. Thanks.
