Actually cranky more Republicans voted for the civil rights act than Democrats did, over 80 % of the Repulicans & only 69% of the Democrats. The right had nothing to do with that. Surely once you've taken into account that black people would be quite happily living in communities in africa as they had done for thousands of years had the whites not kidnapped them for slavery in the first place, anything done to rectify hundreds of years of abuse doesn't make up for much.
