Well, IMO, it is a combination of things. Many people simply cannot join due to other responsibilities, even if they want to. I personally don't think military personell are compensated enough for their efforts. Also, I'd bet that during any time of war, recruitment would be down, at least in recent years. Perhaps that was not the case a long time ago though, and I don't have any exact stats on this.
Yes What a great opportunity. go to iraq, get kidnapped, then have your head slowly picked off when a pocket knife. Where do I sign up?
I think most of the other major wars, the draft was in effect. But I see your point, if so many support this war, seems like enlistment would be up.
you know how some people say they support what green peace or human rights groups do, but do nothing to help except for maybe buying dolphin free tuna or wearing differnt color ribbons on the designated day for different causes. I'm thinking it's same with the war in Iraq and yellow ribbons and support our troops stickers.
probably because they lie and they basically suck. not that that's unique as far as militaries go.
^Yeah anyone who believes those commercials 100% is thick.
Because Chevron Texaco is doing just fine without my help.
Because kids nower days are letting their nuts hang by telling recruiters to f*ck off.
Because all the kids who just wanted to join the military to get a job and a free education for a few years, but who really didn't want to fight, aren't joining now as they might actually have to fight.
Well, duh? Let me see, let's say I'm a 19 year-old high school graduate looking for a career. How about the Army, eh, or the Marines? What do I know about it? Well, I see the mounting numbers of American and other dead on the television each night, see the death created by these suicide bombers, and occasionally there is someone getting their heads lopped off, and because I will have to enter the military at the bottom of the food chain, there is a pretty good chance I'll be sent to Iraq where all this is happening. So, "well, sir, would you like fries with that?" becomes a more attractive option. But you know that, and I bore you. Thanks for the ballot.
One word: I R A Q
if someone supports the war, why would they not want to be part of it. I think that was really the question here. And the answer is, they are hypocrites.
Look at all those young enlistment age Fox News teams. Don't see any of them rushing to the recruiting station.
The ranks of the American chickenhawks are swelling and the only deaths they will suffer are from obesity while sitting on their fat asses watching Fox News.
I would have to say that the thought of being sent out to murder innocent civilians would be enough to put anyone off. Except racists (burn the towel-heads!), psychopaths (burn everything!) and fundamentalists Christians (burn the infidels!) of course.
When the first Gulf War kicked off commies on CNN said the US should order 10's of thousands of body bags because the "Elite Iraqi Republican Guard" would absolutely destroy our "high-tech" military. Now the Commies on CNN and others say recruitment is down. And we are supposed to believe them. This is the perfect opportunity to bash Conservatives and/or the military.
If nothing else works, just throw the word 'commie' into the mix and see those conservative knees jerk
pene, I did not see the story about enlistment being down, but I don't know why you might doubt it, I could see why it would be. If Fox had reported the story would you have believed it?
The same way that the lefties on this site throw around fascist, fundie, fundamentalist, and Christian (as if that is an insult). Whatever.
