you can fight back, but chances are you will have extra charges brought against you, so I don't know the answer
Not in my town you can't. Anyway the cops here are too smart to beat just anybody out in plain view of the public. That's what the waterfront is for.
I actually think I could have better phrased the question as "Are law enforcement personell held sufficiently accountable for their actions"? I mean, the Rodney King beat down, the countless events where suspects are filmed being struck while defenseless, the trigger-fingers out there who shoot way too prematurely, etc etc etc. How the hell did those LA cops get off, even if Rodney was a criminal?
Rodney King kept getting back up
Try being a cop for a couple of years.
I wonder how many times a suspect has said they surrendered, only to go into a violent frenzy as soon as the police let down their guard?
^But often times they are in cuffs while being beaten and restrained....
Perhaps you should be allowed to fight back if being assualted by the police, but if you do fight, you are risking at least a more severe beating, and maybe worse. What I think would be the best response is just try to survive it as best you can, and then "pass out" on the jail floor as soon as you are booked. This might give you evidence for a lawsuit later. Or not. Thanks for an interesting ballot.
The stupidest thing you can do is resist arrest. Anyone who would even contemplate fighting back is either stupid or has never spent anytime on the street.
As a Black man, what you suggest is tantamount to suicide. If I'm in that sitch, I just lay there and take it.
A good beating may be just what they need.Remember ,what doesn't kill you makes you stronger
If "subdued" then how would you fight back? Cops don't just walk around wanting to kick the shit out of people. When suspects fight with cops, they have the sanctioned ability to bring whatever force THEY feel necessary. I have been arrested a couple of times. Once I fought with them. They won the fight. When they were putting me in the car they "accidentally" banged my head against the door jamb. But I had broken one of the cops' nose. Later all charges were dropped against me because of the concussion they gave. In retrospect I don't think that was fair. I broke that cops nose and nothing happened to me and I had committed a crime already and that is why they were arresting me in the first place. Ever since that time I have been respectful of police and they of me, even though I was arrested several more times. In the US, in general, most police forces are good. With some exceptions you are pretty safe in uniformed cops hands.
I think we should be allowed to attack the cop even if they haven't hit us but as long as they're violating our rights. If you're being arrested for drug possession and you escape by knocking the cop out, justice has been served.
Hell yes! When a cop start's doing that, then he/she is no longer a cop as far as I'm concerned.
